^ Thanks for unearthing that Pink Floyd Relic from the long distant past, which remained hidden from my view until now on the Dark Side of the Moon, and you're absolutely right about it being a perfect fit for the Meddle album.

One of the few times they featured a trombone, played by Rick Wright if my memory serves me correctly. It was recorded around the time they were working on Ummagumma, but didn't fit in with the format of that album, nor with Atom Heart Mother. Had they not put it out on Relics in early 1971, it might have fitted well on 'Meddle' (released later that year) as it has a romantic theme as does the rest of that album. They may have had to drop 'San Tropez' and 'Seamus' tho from the first side of the LP. Yes I do consider 'Meddle' to be a rare example of a romantic Floydian work!

Biding My Time was overlooked by me too, as I don't remember that song at all.

I'm 'Biding My Time' reading this thread - possibly one of their greatest overlooked gems as it was only released on 'Relics'.

^Well, it's different because you're an administrator so of course you have to see people's posts.

Yeah, it's definitely possible. In fact with the board (or bored as we called it) I belonged to before this one (about a sci-fi show), the original board was being shut down cause the TV series was cancelled and the production company (which I had worked as a webwriter for for a different show) was bought out. One of us saved the forum content by using a program to copy all the posts and migrate those to a new forum (this stuff gets saved to servers, lthough one might lose some new content). It looked just the same, but new domain. Then that board went, but another saved it to another new board with another domain name. Mind you, the number of posts does not compare to here. At an another forum I belonged to, they started using new forum software and just didn't even bother to transfer the old topics, which sucked. No warning to save your old posts or apologies either.
It wouldn't be appropriate for me to use an ignore function, but I get why someone would want it, even though I wouldn't want it. I would hate it if it was set up so that I couldn't see that person's posts but he or she or ze could still see mine (and maybe be able to comment on mine). And in fact, I think you have to be logged-in for it to be operational -- I'm not that familiar with it and haven't belonged to any forums with it -- I've focused on this forum when it comes to any posting, with a little foray outside, for 15 years. Anyway of course this would be M@x's call if it's something he think would benefit the site and would be willing to put the money and work into it (maybe this forum software will support it some day and this forum software will be updated to the latest version). |

I suppose an ignore button would just make it easier to ignore them. Some of us don't have much self discipline and could benefit from said button.

Still, I don't think things become ugly quiet so often on this forum, I don't think the ignore button is so needed anyway. And still, I don't fully understand how such a feature would work... why do we need an ignore button to ignore posts we don't like... all we have to do is, well, ignore them.

It's not impossible. I remember progressive ears totally changing websites about 9 years ago(I don't remember the reason though). However, it might not make sense at this point and probably would just confuse people. This site is admittedly a lot bigger and more involved than PE.

They certainly have wider appeal than any other band that gets labelled prog including Rush and Yes. I think one reason why they became so huge when others didn't is because they weren't typically as complex and were often closer to "normal" rock than the others. If I wanted to be somewhat mean I could even say they are a band for people who aren't that big into music or a prog band for people who don't like prog.

Well, they didn't design the forum software, that's Web Wiz Forums, and I don't know why that one was gone with (cost I suppose) or which ones would have provided an Ignore button. I can't remember if this was the first forum software they used. I don't believe this forum software has that functionality, and to move to another is not that easy methinks (migrating over all the posts). None of the forums I belonged to before this one had an Ignore function (they all used different services methinks). I think modern VBulletin versions provide it now.

One of the few things I don't like about this site is that there's no ignore button. Being able to ignore people on here would make life so much easier for everyone but for some reason those who started this place didn't think it was necessary apparently.

I hid a couple of posts (and then some more), one which clearly went over the line and I will be issuing a warning. The old adage of attack the ideas, not the person applies.
Bear in mind the forum rules: 1. No Vulgarity profanity, or bigotry 2. No Personal attacks (flaming or trolling) 4. No Sniping See http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13083 Best not to post until cooling down and you can discuss the ideas rationally (that's really hard when upset), don't goad, and just avoid insulting behavior (there's the principle of charity and all that). Not that one must have the last word and be right-- stops just dropping a discussion is the best way to avoid getting disrespectful/ insulting. At the old forum I belonged to we had one basic rule, "Be excellent to each other". Edited by Logan - February 13 2021 at 09:52 |

Your opinion is ridiculously judgmental and misinformed; in addition, based on interviews there doesn't seem to be any contradictions among the band members. They did not recognize the bloated bald man with shaved eyebrows, and they were genuinely shocked when they finally figured out who he was. And to show you are [in error], here is a further recounting of the WYWH session:
So, evidently the band did talk with him. Evidently, he was asked to stay and attend Gilmour's wedding reception after the recording session. Evidently, Syd was so messed up he left without telling anyone. This is further borne out in an encounter between Syd and Roger Waters a couple years later at the London department store Herrods. Syd saw Waters, dropped his bag and ran away. So, as with all relationships, it takes two to tango. P.S. Edited out all the html/CSS interwebz scripting garbage that was vomited onto this post after it was previously edited by the kindly mod.
