I like Test for Echo as well. as for Born Again, it's my least favorite BS album, I rarely listen to it. I enjoy the Iommi & Hughes collaboration on Seventh Star as well as their later albums.

Rajaz is the only Camel album that can be compared to the first four. By coincidence I've listened to it this morning.

Well with ELP you can't pick any of their first six albums as 'unconventional' favourite choices I believe. However Works is another story so TCat is on the money with those. Even many ELP fans didn't like those albums and it was a major reason for the band going downhill in popularity so quickly (that and the massively expensive orchestral tour plus punk was a perfect storm) For me probably Kansas - Somewhere To Elsewhere is the obvious one. King Crimson is an 'almost' as Power To Believe is my second favourite but its still a long way behind the mighty Red. Genesis have made so many great albums but a lot of people write them off after Wind and Wuthering. However And Then There Were Three is one of my favourites by them although it still only gets 3rd spot after Trick and Foxtrot. Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons . I love the title track (my favourite prog metal track) and the tribute medley stuff hits the spot nicely! According to this site though it was 'fan club/promo' release which surprises me. Can I count it??! |

There are number of albums that others have mentioned that are my favourite or amongst my very favourite albums by the artist/ band.
One that hasn't been mentioned is Caution Radiation Area by Area. At ProgArchives and rateyourmusic it has the lowest average rating of the first four Area albums. Arbeit macht frei is the most popular Area album at both sites (I think that's an excellent album, but CRA remains my favourite). |

Haha well when you put it that way it sounds dumb. Again, it's just which is the absolute favorite, whereas the majority of people would pick Metropolis Pt 2 or Images and Words (love those too). My tastes are usually much more predictable, like my favorite Yes album is CTTE and favorite Rush is Moving Pictures etc.

Hawkwind their mid-'80s albums Chronicle of the Black Sword and The Xenon Codex. For most, it seems, they're not "essential" Hawkwind. For me, they most definitely ARE.

ELP - Either their first album or Trilogy. Tarkus and Brain Salad Surgery just don't do it for me.
Pink Floyd - Not my favorite, but I think The Final Cut is a fabulous album. Spock's Beard - X
