I love how PT made a very smooth transition from two different styles.

Lightbulb Sun and Fear of a Blank Planet are drastically different but those two are musical monuments that I adore.

Oops - I forgot to include what it was that I was replying to.  Here it is:

No, you really can't!  Just go ahead and get all of their albums! haha LOL

Works for me - that's what I did!  ;-)

We flew to NYC for the Blackfield concert on 20 May, and I was saddened to hear of the death of Steven Wilson's father on the 24th, leading to the cancellation of several shows on the tour.  It was odd, because I had been really vacillating over whether to catch the show in NYC or Chicago, since they are roughly the same distance from us in Florida, but now I'm doubly grateful that I chose NYC.

Anyway, since I am a big fan of all of SW's musical projects, I wondered if anyone here on this thread is as well?  I've been listening a lot to the first IEM album of late, but I also love all the Bass Communion albums, especially the first.  Blackfield I like a lot, and I am crazy about No-Man, especially the Mixtaped DVD, Schoolyard Ghosts, and the earlier Wild Opera.  And, of course, Insurgentes - this may be the SW album I've played the most, after Deadwing.

RIP Mr. Wilson, Sr.

I highly suggest Signify and Up the Downstair. From their more recent albums, definitely get Fear of a Blank Planet and Nil Recurring.

Yeah, dude, Moonloop is insane!  Nothing better to relax to.  By the time it's over, I'm usually as useless as a pile of Jello!

Voyage 34 was originally gonna be a track for UTD but was dropped during the final cut, although they released it as a 12" single with only phases I and II. Phases III and IV were released as a 12" called Voyage 34: Remixes. They released all 4 on CD in 2000, although the version most people have is the 2004 remaster (with the 3 pills on the cover).

I'd recommend you check out either UTD if you want more psych-rock stuff, or FOABP and/or The Incident for more modern metal-y stuff. Can't go wrong either way though

If it interests you, i suggest the vinyl edition of FOABP, side four is the Nil Recurring EP which is awesome and has Fripp as lead on the instrumental Nil Recurring. Then get Sky Moves Sideways (extended version).

If the vinyl is unappealing go for Deadwing or Signify.

And i believe its considered a compilation becasue it originally has just phase 1 and 2, but they added the remixed versions of those phases (dubbed phase 3 and 4) to the orignals. This made the "complete trip" obviously having a track for each phase.

The Sky Moves Sideways looks the most interesting to me, based on its rating, and some of the reviews.

I always thought Voyage 34 was an actual album, it's under boxsets/compilations here, but it's long enough to be an album, or maybe a  long EP.

Up The Downstair sounds a lot like Voyage 34, so I'd recommend that along with The Sky Moves Sideways and Signify.

Actually, I believe UTD was supposed to originally be a double album with Voyage 34 being one of the sides, but the record company or someone told SW to cut that out and make it a standard album.

Cool thanks. I remember hearing previews of FoaBP when it was coming out, and liking it.

How about one of their older albums. I really like Voyage 34, and it was my first PT album actually. I know their first few albums are more like space rock

I'm looking to get a new PT album one of these days.

I have

Voyage 34
In Absentia

i also heard most of The Incident from a friend, but I dont have it, it was enjoyable from what I remember.

What should I get next? (you can recommend an older one and a newer one if you'd like)
