http://kohntarkosz.blogspot.com/2010/03/orkestraahl-ka.html

In 2005, Magma came out with a Japanese "karaoke" release of KA, titled Orkestraahl KA. This CD has been very difficult to find outside of Japan. Well, now Japanese YouTube uploader UniweriaZekt has uploaded this CD to YouTube. And, it sounds pretty good through my headphones.

A Weidorje live album, recorded October 14, 1978 at Rombas (Moselle) should appear in 2010 on the Soleil Zeuhl label.

Weidorje - Self Titled

Jannick Top - Machina

Both Magma related, and both phenomenal. Mr. Top's album is probably as "doom metal" as Zeuhl gets, so I dig it.

I was listening to Magma's Kobaia album earlier tonight and it did not kill me (???). The music is actually surprisingly enjoyable. Good fusion with something strange avant-garde madness thrown into the mix.

Last year, Soft Machine was a barrier I needed to break. In 2010, I will crack Magma. In 2011, I will crack Westlife......... although that maybe a Himalayan mountain too high for me.

The best I can think of is typing Zeuhl into the recommendation radio. You may find more stuff to your taste that people haven't mentioned.

When I think of Monty Python the first two things that come to mind are Spam (spam spam spam spam spam spam spam) and the Argument Clinic.  Then everything else they've ever done. Tongue

Can't help with that, I rarely use last.fm, especially since the scrobbler function won't work with Zune software. Cry

Lots of good recommendations so far - if you're thinking of dipping a toe into japanese Zeuhl, Koenjihyakkei is a goos place to start. All of the albums are worth owning, but I'd probably start with Nivrayam and work forward and back from there. Ruins Symphonica is also a real treat for Zeuhl fans, while the rest of Ruins work is something you will either love or hate, although if Symphonica tickles your fancy you'll probably enjoy their other albums as well.

Best of the decade!? Big smile
I'm excited to hear how it sounds.

I'm not sure if it's the best Magma album of the decade.  Wink  But the jury seems split among the Magma fans here.  For me it's virtually a dead heat after spinning E-Re a few times.

I might have to sample the newest Runaway Totem - I don't remember being that impressed with their earlier efforts.

I am reviewing Zao's latest album, Ethnic 3 Live, which is excellent, but more on the free-jazz side of things than Zeuhl. Highly recommended anyway, even if not exactly easy listening. Through my reviewing activity I've also come across an Italian Zeuhl band (at least they are listed here under Zeuhl), Runaway Totem. I don't know their previous albums, but their latest, Manu Menes, is really something.
