Like I said it's the internet. I wouldn't use it if it were full of boring mundane everyday events. We all know were better people after seeing two girls one cup.

Let anyone start any thread they wish.
It's the internet,as long as knowone breaks PA rules.Just put up with it.Newbies may find it fun to talk about this stuff.
I'm more bored of reading senior members telling newbies their thread sucks then the threads themselves. If it's a bad thread, let it die on it's own.You can't restrict discussions because you find them boring.

Great, let's make new members so nervous about posting that we only hear from the same old members over and over again.
What do you expect new members to do, read every single thread ever started on the site before they post anything? It seems like people get annoyed far too easily. A symptom of being on the internet too much is when the frustrations of daily life start to get taken out on anonymous strangers online. If someone starts a thread that does not interest you, or even annoys you, guess what? You don't have to read it! Start a discussion that interests you.
It's like going to a party, sticking your nose in other people's conversations, and then getting annoyed if it doesn't interest you.
Here's a guideline for newbies: ignore the bitter and cynical old farts, talk about music, share, learn, and enjoy yourselves.

Maybe we should make this thread a guideline for the newbies?

Personally, I've seen rather enough "Best Album" / "Best Band" of the seventies threads. How many times can we debate the differences between Yes, Genesis and Pink Floyd.
On the other hand, I think we need more threads about marmosets.

Genesis or the threads about Genesis?
Then there's the griping about prog related artists being here...

I hate to break this to you, but both.
Yeah, I saw a few of those threads. I see it more prominently in the reviews. Some of them show one star, and then they go "this is the best album ever, but it's not prog enough!"
