"Celebrate the different moods, colours and textures contained in our progressive tastes. Don't spend your time hating someones personal tastes." Yes, but DT is not prog, so it can't be a part of our progressive tastes. It's out of category! |

Some people here did consider some of Metallica's efforts slightly prog, and Certif1ed only pointed out that many prog metal bands are inspired by them. That's it. Other than that 90% of the people who posted were against its being included in the archives. And as for the poll results, multiple votes were allowed and people just started joking about with this option, hence so many votes for Metallica. So don't lose your faith in the Archives just yet, Alfi. |

Cert, I can understand, and sympathise with your point re Radiohead. You are however guilty of constantly doing the same thing with Uriah Heep! |

Maani, Just to follow up on your point, I'm not at all comfortable with the ratio idea. As others have pointed out, that could lead to bands such as Genesis et al being excluded. The "broad acceptance" idea is better, but necessarily more woolly. I would say any band which has made prog albums over a period of time (i.e. not just a one off) should qualify, regardless of whether or not they later (or earlier) strayed. To give you an example of why ratios would not work, lets say 50% (for arguement's sake) of Genesis albums were prog, and the required ratio is 75%, they would not qualify. If however they had changed their name after Hacket left to say "Then there were three", Geneiss would then qualify, and TTWT would not. |

I LOVE Metallica but it cannot fit in this site... do you think it can do along with classics like genesis? yes? or new prog like dream theater? spock's beard? Also, if metallica enters the archives, then you should have to add hundreds of metal bands!!! (Megadeth, Death, Destruction, Kreator, Suicidal Tendencies?.. you don't want to do it don't you? then you should have to visit www.metalstorm.ee).... i'm not saying metallica doesn't have prog influences, they managed to do such great songs like Orion, Master of Puppets, And Justice fo All, The Call of Ktulu, Fade to Black, The Frayed ends of Sanity, To live is to Die, One and some others, but they ARE NOT a prog band, not because you find some irregular songs in metal, i'm saying, with various parts and riffs not easily to be made in this genre, they would be necessarily prog... We're talking just about SOME songs taken out from just 4 albums of the 10 albums!!! they've taken out in 20 years... please.... Metallica can't be added in this site's PROG archives. Please don't!! by the way if you think Metallica does prog, try Megadeth, IMO they're better than Metallica, though Metallica are one of the most important bands in Rock / Metal history.
