OK, I prepared a list
I shant change the entries due to the problems with the diacritic signs in my computer. The correct code of a country is below each group of bands. There are three groups that should be discussed. 1. Bands with the same names: AMAROK -- Prog Folk AMAROK (POL) -- Crossover Prog -- Should be ESP, POL *** AMON DάάL Krautrock AMON DάάL (UK) Krautrock -- United Kingdom Should be GER, GBR *** ANDROMEDA (SWEDEN) -- Progressive Metal ANDROMEDA (UK) -- Proto-Prog -- United Kingdom Should be SWE, GBR *** ANOMALY -- Progressive Metal ANOMALY (USA) -- Progressive Metal -- United States Should be BRAINSTORM -- Jazz Rock/Fusion BRAINSTORM (AUS) -- Psychedelic/Space Rock -- Should be GER, AUS *** CARTOON -- RIO/Avant-Prog -- CARTOON (BR) -- Prog Related -- Should be CLEPSYDRA -- Neo Progressive CLEPSYDRA (IT) -- Italian Symphonic Prog -- Should be SUI, ITA *** DEJA-VU (JA) -- Symphonic Prog Japan DEJA-VU (NO) -- Heavy Prog -- Should be JPN, NOR *** DELIRIUM (ITA) -- Italian Symphonic Prog DELIRIUM (ME) -- Crossover Prog -- Should be ITA, MEX *** DRAMA (FR) -- Symphonic Prog DRAMA (UR) -- Neo Progressive -- Should be FRA, URU *** EDEN -- Prog Folk EDEN (FR) -- Progressive Electronic EDEN * -- Symphonic Prog -- Should be GER, FRA, CAN *** ERGO SUM (CHI) -- Prog Folk ERGO SUM (FR) -- Jazz Rock/Fusion -- Should be CHI, FRA *** ET CETERA (CA) -- Eclectic Prog ETCETERA (DK) -- Symphonic Prog -- ??? GALADRIEL -- Neo Progressive GALADRIEL (AUS) -- Prog Folk -- Should be ESP, AUS *** GALAHAD (EN) -- Neo Progressive -- United Kingdom GALAHAD (GE) -- Prog Folk -- Should be GBR, GER *** LIFE -- Crossover Prog LIFE (GER) Krautrock -- Should be SWE, GER *** MIRAGE -- Italian Symphonic Prog MIRAGE (EN) -- Jazz Rock/Fusion -- United Kingdom MIRAGE (FRA) -- Jazz Rock/Fusion -- Should be ITA, GBR, FRA NAUTILUS -- Progressive Electronic NAUTILUS (SWI) -- Symphonic Prog -- Should be GER, SUI *** NOW -- Neo Progressive NOW (USA) -- Prog Related -- United States Should be OCTOPUS (CHI) -- Progressive Metal OCTOPUS (EN) -- Psychedelic/Space Rock -- United Kingdom OCTOPUS (GE) -- Psychedelic/Space Rock -- Should be CHI, GBR, GER *** PROVIDENCE -- Neo Progressive PROVIDENCE (US) -- Prog Folk -- Should be PYRAMID Krautrock PYRAMID -- Progressive Metal -- Should be GER, ESP *** TEMPEST -- Prog Folk -- TEMPEST (UK) -- Heavy Prog -- Should be TRESPASS (GE) -- Symphonic Prog TRESPASS (IS) -- Symphonic Prog -- Should be GER, ISR *** UTOPIA -- Eclectic Prog -- UTOPIA (GERMANY) Krautrock -- Should be VIRUS -- Progressive Metal VIRUS -- Heavy Prog -- Should be NOR, GER *** 2. Bands with the similar names: Here the difference is in a diacritic sign only. I think these bands also should bear the countries codes beside them. AGORA -- Progressive Metal AGORΐ (ITA) -- Jazz Rock/Fusion -- Should be MEX, ITA *** CAPHARNAUM -- Progressive Metal -- CAPHARNAάM -- Heavy Prog -- Should be RAGNARΦK -- Prog Folk RAGNAROK (NZ) -- Psychedelic/Space Rock -- Should be SWE, NZL 3. Bands without the counterpart but with the country marker (for what reason?):I suggest to delete the countries codes. ANIMA (AR) -- Symphonic Prog -- GRACE (EN) -- Neo Progressive -- INFINITY (USA) -- Symphonic Prog -- United States JEREMY (USA) -- Crossover Prog -- United States MERLIN (GER) -- Symphonic Prog -- NIRVANA (UK) -- Proto-Prog -- United Kingdom RELAYER (USA) -- Symphonic Prog -- TARKUS (BR) -- Symphonic Prog -- Last update: Edited by Fassbinder - October 12 2007 at 14:14 |

When it comes to identifying a country of origin that a band comes from where there is a shared band name it seems there is no real standard applied in PA. As an example you will find bands from France with either (FRA) or (FR) as a country identifier, or from Italy the code may be (ITA) or (IT)... My suggestion: PA should adopt the Standard 'Olympic' Country Codes for applying the country of origin as a standard, giving consistency of entry of information in PA. The list of codes can be found here:
I understand this is not a 'biggie' but consistency of entry of information leads to better understanding of what people are reading and does make things a little more 'professional'.
Anyway, a little something to think about in amongst all the other things.
Cheers,
T.Rox
