Turned out to be a good game, RF. When we gave up that lead off double in the 11th I thought we were toast. To win on the road and against a team like Detroit is a good start. Detroit is still the class of the AL Central, so teams will be gunning. Still, Trey Hillman seems to be a good fit for the Royals and with his experience in Japan, may be making the team faster and fundamentally sound. Still need that batter that will strike fear into pitchers, though. E

5 days until opening day. They're saying it might make it in to the 50's here in Detroit. There should be a law about the Tigers and other outdoor teams starting the season at home. This will only be my 6th opening day, but it has the chance to be the coldest. Then again, it was even colder when the Tigers were playing in the World Series a couple of years ago in late October. I am looking forward to doing that again this year.

Yep, and he'll probably end up trading Huston Street eventually and get a king's ransom for him in return. Their farm system will be stacked and they'll eventually revive the major league roster. He robbed the Diamondbacks and the White Sox in the Haren and Swisher deals, I think most of the prospects from those deals entered the A's top ten prospect list.

But salaries a league-wide problem that's not about to go away.

I agree that closers are incredibly overpaid. Billy Beane and the Oakland A's realized this, so they went about developing their own closers by taking solid but not overpowering pitchers and putting them at closer, then selling them for massive amounts of dough once they racked up 30 or 40 saves. It's a brilliant strategy.

Well hey....as long as Mo can still close the deal. Personally, I'm not as worried as the Yankees as a lot of people seem to be. Not saying their World Series worthy, but all these people on ESPN radio need to chill

I know the Tigers put Fransisco Rodney on the DL, he was supposed to be their set-up man. Joel Zumaya is out until midseason because of a serious elbow or shoulder injury he suffered when moving furniture during the wild fires in California I think. They have some great starting pitching though... Verlander, Bonderman, Rogers, Robertson, Willis. The only thing about their starting pitching they'd have to worry about is consistency, especially with Bonderman and Willis, who fell apart last year. But still, they have a great team.

I hope the Yankees pitching will be better. Pettite and Wang should be fine, just hope the young pitchers will develop

from what I understand.. .the Tigers are having (had) a lot of problems with injuries in the middle relief.. and how many more innings has Todd Jones got left in him.. he must be as old as I am hahahha. I love the Tigers and they will score a HELL of a lot of runs.. but suspect they will be like the Yankees of the last couple of years...will score enough to win a lot of games... but come playoff time (if they make it) the pitching weaknesses will do them in .. in the end.

The Tigers lineup looks damn good this year, it's more stacked than the Red Sox. I definitely think they'll be one of the top teams in the AL.
Here's hoping the Phillies have a great season and beat out the Mets for the NL East again. If their pitching does OK, then they should be fine.
Oh and I also joined a public fantasy league with my brother and friend yesterday, but the draft hasn't started.

We are going to be so good this year!!! very exciting seeing as not counting the last two seasons, the last two decades have been among the most pathetic the world of baseball has seen. at least boston and chicago had curses to blame. We were just bad. But now we're good! so i can bust out my old english 'D' with pride. very exciting season coming up. hopefully we wont have the injuries we did last year.
