And we mustn't forget the king of the noisemakers: Arnold Schoenberg (creator of the 12-tone style of composition and leader of the Second Viennese School of Music):

Just go listen to Xenakis:
Honestly, I actually found this listenable at least when the rhythms started pounding away. It's like Varese on steroids.

Cool. Thats awesome! I'd love to see Ashtray live. Also yes, I love Smell & Quim. Such a f**ked up noise band, like they all should be. |

Their videos are also really cool.
Oh mah God, that part where she smashes the glass on her forehead was hilarious. The second video is even more insane. 4:47 and on is crazy.

Well if their photos of them playing are anything to go by, this should something definantly worth checking out. ^ cutting acoustic guitars with a chainsaw seems like some the almighty hanatarash might have done.

A noise band called Contortionist Jazz Exotica found my music blog and sent me a cassette tape to review. It is pretty harrowing stuff, but also quite good if you're into horrible, unlistenable noise (which really, who isn't?.) |

no, it's Atomsmasher, there is a mistake in the title. I have a hard copy of the album. Phantomsmasher is the follow-up to James Plotkin's project Atomsmasher.

Today's blog is going to be about a favorite band of mine, and to celebrate their inclusion into the Archives, Ashtray Navigations. http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7415
And, a review for Pearls.. "Imtriprovisation.
Ashtray Navigations is the main project of Phil Todd, who makes noisy psychedelic improvisation that has strong krautrock connotations to it. Those Are Pearls That Were His Eyes is the umpteenth release by AN, and is in keeping with their style of long drawn psych wonderings. This album consists of one nearly fifty minute "song" consisting of nothing but oure trippyness. It starts out with a Nurse With Wound influence, with what could easily random pots, pans, spoons, and other assorted kitchenware, being banged around at random, set against an ambient backdrop of a recording of birds and light and airy synth dronings. As the song progresses, the kitchenware goes away, and gets replaced by some guitar dronings and scratches, with the ever constant airy synths. This rather noisy section then suddenly transitions into some lone, floating type guitar playing. This album is not for the casual Prog fan, but for fans of the noisy side of Psych and Kraut, this album is a treat." And, finally their bandcamp page http://ashtraynavigations.bandcamp.com/album/deadicated-to-the-sensory-armada Happy Trips! |

I've got nothing better to do on a friday night. So I'll post another favorite noise maker of mine. Let me introduce you to Masahiko Ohno, better known as Solmania, who has garnered a cult status in the japanoise scene, with his guitar based noise freakouts, putting to shame the noise-y guitar freakouts of Fred Frith and Arto Lindsay.
