Just a side note...Valverde said he had his pitching problem fixed and well obviously that wasn't the case after his performance in game one. Bumgarner says the same thing after being terrible and shazam ! He's been incredible in game two so far. I just don't like the way this is going but hey it's early yet.

I'd be shocked if Tigers don't win the first one with Zito starting for the Giants although they may be rusty after the layoff they've had.
Eating those words yet?
They did not taste good. Well i predicted the Giants would win this series based on pitching and experience. It just blows me away that a layoff can have such a negative affect. Verlander has been lights out and Zito is...well pretty inconsistant right ? If the Tigers lose tonight with the Giants best pitchers still yet to pitch i'm afraid it might be over. No score after 6 innings which is pretty scary if your a Tigers fan.

GO GIANTS!!
Sure. I am game for a friendly bet on the series. Rather than a photo, maybe we should go with the loser having to change their avatar to one glorifying the winning team.
That's cool
Although my cousin plays for the Indians, I am a HUGE Giants fan- only pro team I have ever had any love for.

That was brutal. A major buzzkill. It was 2006 all over again. And also, really not surprising. Everything really kind of pointed to the this. All the talk about it being a slam dunk with Verlander pitching for the Tigers and Zito making his 1st ever World Series appearance, you just kind of knew that Zito would end up being the better pitcher yesterday.
It's easy to say after the fact... That's the magic of reality sports, no one can predict the outcome because everything is progressing spontaneously without any cause.
This is true. However, after watching the pre-game show where all 3 "experts" predicted that the Tigers would win because Verlander was "unhittable" and the "best pitcher in baseball" and how Zito used to be but was not any more, I turned to my friend and said exactly that. Just watch Verlander blow up like in 2006 and Zito shut down the Tigers. This is mostly a superstition thing with me, but those kind of predictions tend to have the same reaction with me as the announcers should not mention that a pitcher is throwing a no-hitter superstition. The rational brain knows that it has no actual effect on the game but superstition is a crazy bitch.

I like baseball enough that I tend to watch the WS regardless of who is in it. I guess you're losing some of your baseball cred, Brian.
Well so far, this game is going the way I was afraid it would. I knew the Tigers were going to be a bit rusty coming off of such a long break, but Verlander giving up 4 runs in 3 innings (including a pair of homers to Sandoval) was way more than I thought it would be. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
Was hoping for the Cards but ah well, I shall be pulling for the Giants. Seems to me that would be a bit of an upset and indeed, looks like the Tigers are certainly favored.
Though like most of the country (outside CA and MI this year) I find it difficult to care alot when the Yanks aren't involved

Baseball should be played in the snow more often.

It is supposed to be in the 70's today and tomorrow and the Tigers are on the road in San Francisco. By the weekend, they are talking highs in the 40's, with a chance of snow by game 5 on Monday.

Given recent history, the team that's had a long layoff before the World Series has generally lost it. Heck, look at the Tigers back in '06.
Still though, if I were betting on it, I would still pick the Tigers to win. And I will be supporting them in the WS, because I'm still hacked at the Giants for beating my Reds.
