Oh absolutely. You also are talking about us real life folk
![]() If I'm a baseball player and making $50 million, and am offered $75 million.....well that's huge, but 50 mill is a damn lot for me. If I loved where I was I'd stay. Now like I said, if I was playing in Tampa Bay and got an offer from the Yankees, even for the same money (hypothetically) I'd go for the history they have and the city of New York. I assume I'm biased ![]() Yeah, it's been talked about endlessly in this area and like it or not...we are stuck with him. He's not the only problem of course but still..... |

^ Well the money I never pay attention to, because in any career, usually money wins out. I mean if you are making $50K and another company offers you $75K with some moving expenses would you take it? Most probably.....higher pay means more going to your retirement account, so there are added benefits, even if maybe at first you don't like the new city.
Now if you are making $125K and someone offers you $200K? Yea I bet anyone jumps on that in a heartbeat! Now I agree with your point....if I am making $5MM and another company offers me $5.5MM, but I am perfectly happy and like where I live..pretty good chance I pass, don't need it....but make that $7MM......I'm gone
![]() 100% agree with the A-rod performance comments, he's just a very good player right now, nowhere near an impact player and probably should be traded off (not sure if possible) to a team that needs some help. Jeter is beyond class act......shoulder to shoulder with Ripken for sure.

Yeah it's insane. As for the moving...well this is just my personal opinion but I dont NEED a lot of money.
In general. So, if I was Albert Pujols, (or lets say CC Sabathia since he really loved Cleveland) I'm already making a sh*t ton of money. Sure, they are offering me $30 million more, how can you not take it? Or the classic "business/family decisions" line but you already make more in year than I can even dream of in my life....I wouldn't go solely because "well how can I turn down that much more?" Now I would go to Yanks for the history and all that, but just me. Never know Catcher. The biggest payrolls in 2010 were who? Yanks, Sahx and Phillies. How well did they all do? Or look at my Yanks the last decade or so. All I ever hear about is "waaaaaaaaaaaaaah baaaaaaaaahh they got so much money" but it never does any good. Playoffs every year? Yeah like you need $500 million to do that. Especially just to lose first round every time? I'll take my 90s Yankees over this "team" one million times. We are stuck with him...but in fantasy land I'd drop A rod in a heartbeat. If anything WE got the raw end of the deal ![]() He may have been better at the start of his NYY career but he never "wowed" any of us and now...he doesn't hit for average, he doesn't steal, he's a pure power hitter which means 7 times out of 10 its a long hit...caught at the wall. He certainly isn't clutch and I'd say a distraction. Being the class act he is, Jeter says "all is good" and that stuff but Alex created a huge rift with him, and just brings so much negative attention off the field, as never gelled with the team I do think. I don't know how to feel about the Pujols deal.......I would be safe in saying the M's here in Seattle could possibly never win the ALW in the next 5yrs easily now. It will take 90+ games to get that banner for sure, Ms and As are far from any winning season of that caliber.
I am happy that I will get to see one of the greatest (if not thee) hitters in MLB come to Safeco field and probably own that stadium. I don't believe this deal will be any sort of a bust, unlike the A-roid/Texas deal......A-roid had no intention of staying with Texas after a couple years, he wanted the NYY.
I don't think Pujols will go that way......the A-roid deal just happened to soon.
Plus after 4-5 yrs Pujols can quit playing 1B and be the Angels DH for easily another 4-5 yrs and still mash..

Yeah, baseball is a ridiculously lucrative business... Part of me wishes I would have tried to take a shot at getting drafted somewhere... I didn't have hardly any scouts come see me in high school, but when one season of MINIMUM salary in the majors is as much as what I make in 9 or 10 years at my current job... Ridiculous! With his new contract, Albert Pujols will make more in one single at-bat than I'll have made this entire year. I would say that for that kind of money you can't really blame him for leaving St. Louis, but heck, they offered him just about as much. My guess is that he's thinking that by going to an AL team he can DH the last few years of his contract to stay healthy and keep his offensive numbers up. And yeah, Symphony X's Facebook polls about what songs fans want to see live from each album have got me in a Symphony X mood lately. Usually Symphony X is mainly reserved for my car because it gets me pumped on the way to work, but it's good pretty much any time of day. |

Yeah seriously, but these baseball players are the worst. Guess I can
understand why, without any cap limits you are free to sign em
for....well lets say $254 million.
Outrageous. Buehrle isn't a terrible pick up, as you said can be useful just not greatly. I know the Yankees faithful floated his name around but ultimately came to the same conclusion, wasn't worth it. Almost a shame to see Pujols go, I'm a random fan of the St Louis teams but watcha gunna do? Random: Glad to see that Symph X being played man :D |

Buehrle is actually somewhat useful if you use him the right way and have the right team around him... He had an ERA way under 3 at home this year, so if you streamed him against weak teams and at home he could have helped moderately with wins and pretty well with ERA. You just have to have a few high-K relievers to even out his absolutely atrocious lack of K's. Personally I hate using pitchers with K/9 under 7 if I can help it, but every now and then, assuming you get them cheap, they can be sneakily decent. |

Yeah, I think it's pretty childish to want to leave just because you have to change positions... I changed positions all the time in high school because I worked really hard to be able to play good defense at every position and my coach knew that wherever he put me I would have good range and a great arm... It was irritating sometimes, especially when our starting catcher whined about his knees hurting and I got called in from 3B or OF to catch (Catching sucks and I hate it), but I did it, after cussing him out in Spanish. Hanley doesn't exactly strike me as the Omar Infante, Martin Prado, Ty Wigginton type player that will play hard wherever you put him. He doesn't even always play hard at the position that he's played his entire career! So I'm not at all surprised that he reacted this way, however... If the Marlins didn't have the decency to discuss this with him before signing Reyes, I can see why that would make him upset. I can't imagine that they didn't discuss it with him because there's been talk about them signing Reyes and moving Hanley either to 3B or the OF for well over a month, but there is a slight possibility that they never actually sat him down and told him what their plans were. Either way he should get over himself and deal with it, but I can at least see why he'd possibly be upset. |

Ooh now the Angels are getting in on the act with Pujols for 10 years at $254 million. What's that per at-bat? Probably making more than the average person per 2 at-bats at least

Marlins withdraw their bit for Pujols and sign... Mark Buehrle?
![]() Pujols to the LAA Angels! So, he goes from playing for my most hated manager (La Rusa) to maybe the next most so (Scioscia). Knowing the eye Scioscia has for talent Albert will probably be on the bench for half the year ![]() Edited by manofmystery - December 08 2011 at 11:01 |

Oh yeah I'm personally I'm neutral on the team, used to view them as another Yankees feeder series really
![]() Yeah I was making fun of the massive story it'll be...but you are right, this time the established team player is doing the moving for the new guy. I'd not have a problem with it, do the team thing but most players are selfish b*****ds. I only know Hanley the player so can't speak to his work ethic and maturity but I don't doubt you. |

Yeah, personally I hope that they seriously flounder because I can't stand Ozzie Guillen and because of the whole situation of lying about their profits in order to have the city/county pay for the vast majority of their new stadium... Otherwise I'd actually be excited to see the Marlins going out and signing players and trying to make something happen instead of dumping all their talent every time pay day comes around.
I think the Hanley/Reyes thing COULD be a bit overblown; people tried to do that when A-Rod was traded to the Yankees and had to move to 3B because of Jeter, too, and it wound up being nothing. The difference here, of course, is that Hanley is a notoriously lazy and work ethic-devoid immature player and Reyes is frequently injured. It might cause them some issues, after all! |

Well that explains it!
Sounds like they aren't going for Pujols though, instead signing Mark Buehrle. Also the year 2012 hasn't even begun and the talks of "internal pressure" are already swirling since their current SS is moving to third for Reyes. Of course it'll be a story and never hear the end of it and anything that goes wrong will somehow be chucked to that. Welcome to the majors Miami ![]() |

It's easy to have money to sign lots of big names when you cheat taxpayers by lying about financial records....

MoM isn't that already the joke about baseball? ![]() Pretty sure lots of teams would be interested in Reyes and Pujols. Hell, I would love them on the Yanks. Not that I want another $250 mill spent, but it'd be epic to have em. They're great players.
Yes and their attendance has been utterly dreadful, I'm sure this is part of an attempt to get people to actually go to the games. I remember even back in their WS year you could see plenty of those orange seats. Oh! Also there is interest in Mark Buehrle, CJ Wilson and Ryan Madson from the Marlins. Real latino heat right there ![]() Where are they getting this $ from? They need to save some FAs for the Yanks! We'll have no one to buy at this rate ![]() Edited by JJLehto - December 07 2011 at 11:14 |

If I am not mistaken, the Marlins are moving into their new stadium this year, so they are expecting an influx of fans and money this year and are therefore building a team that will try and draw fans to this new stadium.

The Marlins are sure making things interesting.
The Jays made a trade to hopefully settle down some of our bullpen problems by acquiring Sergio Santos from the White Sox (http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=382096). The Mets took their two ineffective closers from last year, Jon Rauch and Frank Fransisco, off their hands in free agency.
