I saw the 1982 reunion Six Of The Best at Milton Keynes Bowl, arranged after Gabriel's WOMAD project went tits up. It chucked it down all day, we had to put up with Jonathon King (), and, by the band's own admission, the musical performance was not of the greatest standard. However, as a nostalgia fest, it worked a great deal of magic and it remains one of my all time favourite gigs. |

Of course I believe ! For me Genesis is much more progressive than KC! But here almost everyone who votes for KC argues his choice saying "its the most progressive band" . But progressivenes itself isn't very important feature ! It says nothing about a Music . For example, Wagner is more "prog" than Tchaikovsky but we all understand who is better composer . |

OK, I just made up my mind, I'll go with Genesis. Let's see if I don't change my mind once it's too late.

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

I grew up listening to Peter Gabriel's voice. Thanks to my father. I discovered KC later on my own. Fripp is amazing, but I have to go with Genesis. My heart tells me so.

KC have fewer great albums over a longer period of time but imo, Red, LTIA and Discipline seal the issue over Genesis. Note that I have not even mentioned Court..., which, while a great album, is not as great as these three for me. Now, MAYBE that's putting them on too high a pedestal for YOU but not for ME. If it was about quantity (of great albums) over quality, I would have had to cast my vote for Genesis but it's not. I agree, however, that voting for influence or because KC apparently didn't make any pop albums is a strange reason because Discipline is sorta pop with lot of polyrhythms and all that and not quite a prog album in the 'classic' sense. I haven't properly investigated Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair but it would probably not be very different.

Couldn't agree more. It's all very obtuse.
