Big smile  Hey guys, how's it going?

Things are good these days.  Rob and I are still together, it's been more than three years at this point!  Aside from lovely prog rock, I'm finding a great deal of wonderful music in other genres, and spending a lot of time writing and recording my own.  There's some songs here, it's nothing special but it's a lot of fun to do.  What's everyone else been up to? Smile

On the subject of Pink Floyd, what's the consensus on the Waters solo work?  I hold Amused To Death quite highly and consider the lyrics to be some of Waters' best, and Radio Kaos is fun, if not a tad dated.

In my hometown Chicago, the damn classic radio stations have played DSOTM to absolute death for years!  Between that and the ever-present "Led Zepplin every other song" I have a hard time with DS and Wall.

Loved "Animals," need to give it a play sometime.  My personal favorite remains "Meddle," as I thought the level of musicianship, composition and energy were sublime!

"Division Bell" seems like a weak one to me.  Personally, I have tons more music that I need to inhale before I invest a whole lot into Pink Floyd....except for the earliest LPs, I never really discover anything new upon repeated listening.

This thread should be in the "Get The Word Out" Section don't you think... because is not about appreciation of PF but to invite people to confess their tiredness about the band... I'm in the middle as well, I don't see them as great as many fans want to put them but they have good music... not all surely (and their most mainstream stuff is the weaker IMHO) but the album Animals is great... really and I'm not tired of them... just don't get too excited about them... that's all....
Change the program inside... Stay in silence is a crime.

I never get tired of listening to Pink Floyd. Meddle and DSOTM helped me get into Prog Rock and I regularly come back to their more experimental albums like Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma.

Yes and ELP are much poppier, I think. CTTE is pretty much the same thing for 18 minutes...

There is a logic error in the first quote. You are accusing PF for being Madonna or Lady Gaga of prog music. But what about Madonna and the other one, they are producing easy understandable and consumable music in their genre. Being Madonna in Prog is bad yes but being Madonna in her genre, is it bad? I don't think so. Then how come PF is Madonna of Prog and it is bad for them.

And the second one POP is short for popular. What is wrong is being popular. If I am popular that doesn't always mean it's my "fault". May be you you may say cheap. Do you think PF is cheap, Yes is Cheap?
Really don't mind if you sit this one out.

One must not forget, as a progressive music fan, you have the secret super power of enjoying long bits of music, more often then not, without lyrics.  Most pop fans cant handle long songs or songs without lyrics.  This (with the help of a generous amount of drugs) makes Pink Floyd very appealing to non-prog fans and prog newbies.

I look at it this way, there's a lot of crap out there.  At least we can bridge the gap with Pink Floyd, even if we know the songs backwards and forwards.

Today must be the day I go Confused... I know lots of people who love PF and have never touched any drugs in their whole life. Anyway, as I said in another thread, to each its own.

I too have never needed to use drugs to enjoy PF, although I had to bear the pothead stigma is high school because I listened to PF. I don't even understand why you would need drugs to like PF, you either do or you don't.

Who can forget The Wall, where they build it during the first half, and then on "Comfortably Numb" with the wall fully built, Gilmore's solo, on top of the Wall, with his shadow on the back of the Forum. Or the "Animals" tour with all the floating animals. Way cool!!. Pink Floyd put on THE BEST concerts. You can, in fact, never get tired of The Floydage.Big smile

But i supossed it was not a Floyd apreciation tread so whats the fuss about saying i feel the Post Barrett Floyd,s are a fake? This mean im forcing someone to think the same?. Is not even an argument is an opinion so is obvious im not trying to convince no one ( maybe i say it too enfaticly or in harsh way, i want to apologize but my dislike is as emotional as it is for the people who like them..i was saying the things directly as i feel them, dot).
But i beg everyone to understand i didnt write in a Floyd apreciation tread to bash them. I feel it to be something disgusting and stupid, im not only anti-Floyd, is not my thing to say whenever i can and when im not asked, in everyplace that i dont like the Floyds...I just say it when the topic of the tread seems apropiate to do it. Just im wandering that the anti-Floyds bashing by the Floyds fans is correct in a tread entitled : IS ANYONE ELSE GETTING KIND OF SICK OF PINK FLOYD?
Floyd fans for me it seems is not the tread for expresing your adeshion to the Floyds, like i wouldnt write in a tread named: Is someone getting tired of Gong?. No i will go to the apreciation tread mainly because i dont want to enter in bizantine discusion if its not the point and the place...also because i dont want to offend other sensibilities. You like Gong Ok share you liking in one tread , you dont ok say it in another , otherwise you will have people saying how much they dislike a group in an apreciation tread, and thats disgusting and inapropiate in my opinion. Or you just could not say that you dislike this or that because you dont have a place to do it.
I dont thing what i say is so strange or offensive.
Anyway.
It does not matter which band you pick - if you diss them then someone will come to their defence - it is natural and expected so don't overreact or act surprised or hurt when people do. After all, fan is short for fanatic - none of them are going to sagely stroke their beards and say "hey, you're right".

Four bands have been done to death with negative threads: Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, ELP and Hogarth-era Marillion, so you can guarantee that the reaction to those to be far greater because we've heard every negative thing that anyone can possibly say about them several times over and we're getting sick and tired of hearing it repeated ad nauseum. I could put most of the replies on a speed-key to save having to re-type them every time.

So yes, I was being incredibly childish when picking on your two-Ts in Barrett slip, because that was the only new thing in your post worth commenting on.
