For me 'The Wall' is the best concept album ever made.

While some people interpret it that way, I've never felt that. To me, I've always thought it was where his psyche finally collapsed to the point where he either went insane or died. The following song, "Outside the Wall", sounds almost like a funeral dirge, both musically and lyrically, as if the people are saying, "Too bad he couldn't be saved."

i always thought the trial was the way out, as in a metaphor for his own struggling with these personal paradoxs, memories and experiences?

I would not say "hate". However, I think that the studio version IS massively overrated, and the music tends to be much lower quality than is normal for Pink Floyd.
The live version, however, is pretty cool, and if I get into a Wall-listening mood (which is pretty rare), that's the version I'm generally going to listen to, because the music is quite a bit stronger.
The thing is...I've been wanting to hear it less and less ever since I found Rick Wright's solo album Broken China, and Ayreon's album The Human Equation. Don't laugh, I'm serious. The thing with these two albums is they both do go very far into psychological darkness--but unlike Waters who just whines, these two albums actually show the way out. Interestingly enough, neither show you what that person makes of their lives out of the initial recovery, so there is still ambiguity...but personally, I would rather hear something that leaves the listener with some hope rather than just whining.

I neither love nor hate it. There are some good songs on there, but also a lot of fairly dud stuff. It doesn't compare to earlier Pink Floyd, and I think that it's just too stupid a lot of the time.

It's only knock and knowall, but I like it...

Yeah, this one's good. One of the best Floyd albums.
It's not Dark Side Of The Moon, but then again: only Dark Side Of The Moon is Dark Side of the Moon , so...
Waters thought that Dark Side, The Wall and Amused To Death are the three highlights of his career. I don't think I agree, but he could have said stranger things...

I like it but it was one of the most disapointing moments in my life, only because my expectations as a 16 year old kid had grown way out of proportions during the three years I've waited since Animals. Thought it sounded like Mott the hoople at first, wondering if it was the wrong album they've put in by mistake. Yes, I realy thought that at first:) some 25 years later, I still am kinda disapointed, realy, but I like it, only not that much.

Its an album I love because it helped me through some difficult years. There wasn't much I could relate to when I was 19.I very much appreciate Roger Waters and his lyrics.

An important album in Rock n' Roll history, a great concept, plenty of
hit songs and necessary fare for ANY music lover, whether amateur or
elite.
But not the best FLOYD album by far...
In fact, not even in their Top 5

I can take it or leave it.Had it rammed down my throat for ages by a born-again Prog-'Head'.Everytime that I went 'round his house,on came The Wall.Soon after he 'discovered' King Crimson.Talk about preaching to the converted.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Their best work for me.
The lyrical meaning is far more transparent and the songs are great.
I've just woken up so that's all I can summon....

definetly one of their best works. Shame that ABITW had to be be covered by people like marilyn manson and Korn. What's with that?

a masterpiece indeed, i heard it is the best selling double album. Roger Waters may be an egotistic git but he sure can write!

I love it. Lots of session musicians were used to record it so in that respect some might say it's not a true Floyd album. I think it's fantastically produced & Bob Ezrin deserves credit for that!

I have always liked The wall. It's the first prog album I ever heard/bought.
Over the years my enjoyment of it has subsided a little after hearing more/better Floyd material, but also as I become more aware of the politics in the band at the time; Rogers falling out with Rick Wright, the central theme of the album and how Gilmour regards it these days. The reality behind tends to tarnish it for me a little these days. As a result it doesn't get played that often.

The original vinyl gets 8/10, the film gets 9/10 , the live version gets 9/10 anfd the star-studded Waters version in Berlin gets 5/10.
