Hi guys--this is the press release, I do have a cool piccy of the front cover but not sure how to upload it! Jerry Ewing is editor-we have had lots of chats and it will cover Classic 70's as well as current and all areas in between. A lot of work has gone into it and would be great if you could support whats a brave venture.

CLASSIC ROCK PRESENTS PROG

The already burgeoning prog rock scene receives another welcome boost with the announcement of the imminent arrival of Classic Rock Presents Prog, a new quarterly journal of progressive music that’s set to offer prog rock fans a wealth of coverage of their favourite bands, artists and music.

Issue one sets out its stall by covering true giants of the genre like Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes and ELP all the way through to modern day protagonists such as Dream Theater, Coheed & Cambria, Queensrcyhe and Porcupine Tree. New acts such as The Reasoning, Frost* and Demians find themselves nestling alongside established prog heroes like Marillion, Rush and Asia.

I always buy Classic rock amg every month.

It is so good in many ways.... but others....... how many times can you right the same article about Hendrix? or Zeppelin? etc etc....

Lets hope the Prog version does not continue to labour on Yes, Genesis, King Crimson etc etc. i.e. Just the godfathers of the Genre as Classic Rock seems to.

Not saying they shouldn't feature bands from across the years... but the Prog scene is so far more ranging now... there must be plenty of bands from the just the past 10 - 15 years to fill the pages...let alone telling us what Yes got upto on a tour back in the early 70's...lol... who cares...

Its a great move.... but the proof is in the writing and those they choose to feature.

I can't wait to see it. I hope is real prog, not some commercially influenced line they call prog. It has happened before, and I hope classic rock magazine does not make the same mistake.

It's nice to see the genre generating a wider interest again.

A "prog related" magazine ? Another example of ProgArchives coining a sub-genre and seeing it seep into mainstream consciousness Tongue

I hope that some of the newer bands will get the publicity they need ie Breathing Space, the Reasoning and Panic Room .. oh and Touchstone too ... all good bands who struggle to sell and get gigs

In the meantime MoJo has released a 1969 special issue with plenty of interesting stuff including a four page spread about Crimson. Good reading....

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter

Hmm. Seems like good news, because, for all of its faults (made very clear and well on previous posts), it is still the only music mag in the UK which takes prog seriously and gives it decent coverage.

I will definitely get this, and, if it lives up to expectations, give up the regular mag and force myself to go without Axl, drug mayhem, and all that jazz Tongue

There's a whole page ad in Classci Rock magazine out today, but little further detail other than a list of the usual suspect bands. A free CD with issue 1 though.

I guess the Classic Rock Society in the UK (who publish their own prog related magazine) aren't going to be too thrilled at this news (circulation war anyone?). That said, two prog publications are always better than one. Smile

It's nice to see the genre generating a wider interest again.

I think it's going to be quarterly, (or every 2 months maybe) at least to begin with to see what the popularity is, I know a lot of work is going into this to keep it very up to date with the "now" prog scene as well as looking back over the years.

It's looking good, not long to go until Issue one hits the streets! Wink

exactly, Micky...

afaic, I stopped getting Classic Rock years ago, when it disappeared up its own rectum amidst article after article on how Aerosmith spent most of the 70's in a drug induced haze/ Poison trashed hotel rooms/ Motley Crue trashed women/ Guns n Roses trashed each other and so on, and so on...

tabloid, derivative and nauseating...

I jolly well hope this mag demonstrates an altogether higher standard of music journalism...

I am sure I'll get something in the mail, since for years I have been a regular subscriber to Future Publishing mags (not just CR, but others more concerned with womanly arts Wink

). CR can be easily found here in the US, so we'll check it out, and see whether it is worth taking up a subscription.

Classic Rock are issuing a new prog magazine "Classic Rock presents Prog", issue one out on March 25th.

Not much detail and I can't see anything on their web site, but I assume that "issue one" means this is going to be a regular monthly mag.
