You'd consider Dream Theater for the all-time greatest band? Don't get me wrong, I love them. But the best ever?
|
Calm down, I'm with you. You have to see that most people don't know enough music. I do, but not most people.
|
Haha, true lostrom. Very true.

Stay cool Reedy
I was just picking the obvious bands name to fit the topic.
I take it Rush are the greatest band of all time
Well it's not ELP
|
who knows?
The title of Greatest Rock band of all time would be a combination of popularity vote, nostalgia and intellectual snobbery.
Of course my favourite band is Rush.

This is one of the reasons I asked this question in the first place, Reed. I wanted to see if people can differentiate their favorite band from a band they recognize as the greatest band of all time.

I was actually refering to Rush's consistancy as in their responsibility to their fans is of the most have ever seen. That is a statement hardly to be debated and everyone knows that 80's rush after Signals was pretty bad. If that wasn't implied now it is for those who like to argue, bring it |
Who are the "everyone" who know Rush "were crap" after Signals.I for one do not agree at all.
However, you are entitled to your opinion.

This is just silly
Say what you think, not what you think you would be expected to say as a "serious music connoisseur."
The greatest band of all time=your favourite band of all time
That is obvious to me-because you cannot quantify "greatest"- that title is subjective.
However,if the question demanded the most influential rock band of all time,my reply would be:
The Beatles. Of course. No real argument with that.

No such thing as THE GREATEST BAND EVER...As for the Fab4 - Overrated and repetitively boring. They made 5-6 pretty good pop tunes and thats it. Funny nobody mentioned the ROLLING STONES ! (LOL)...Or the RAMONES for that matter.

To all of you Beatle loving fools out there. There is way more to a band than influence. Indeed, if we are talking about 'greatest' band than it is mostly about how the band is! in that regard, the beatles are a bunch of overrated childish ninkapoops. And saying that they were the first is nonsense, because jazz was kicking musical arse before that and the first arsekicking progband was the first arsekicking progband. They didn't have the beatles as example to arsekicking, because they don't.

Hmmmm.... nice! Aren't you a self-professed Christian? Have you ever heard of Christ's tenet to "Do onto others, as you would have them do onto you?" Assuming that you have, I put it to you, JerkSpurious, that YOU are the fool, if you can't engage in a civil discussion about music without insulting people.
Your post is near incoherent, as well.
And so the forum becomes friendlier and friendlier....
Everyone: "Greatest" is undefined in this context, and highly subjective, so all responses are right!

PROG: KING CRIMSON
HARD ROCK/CLASSIC ROCK: LED ZEPPELIN
METAL: BLACK SABBATH
but there are so many good bands...
Beatles are great, they pioneered some prog ideas, but frankly, their work is pop-rock, never prog.
