Hmm, just a guesstimate...
prolly about 150 vinyl records, 100 casettes, 800 CDs, and I have about 250G of music on my hard drive (a mix of stuff downloaded, copied from friends, and ripped from my own collection).
...oh, and 1 8-track tape (no, I'm not kidding. It got stuck in a junk drawer years ago and my perverse sense of humor restrained me from doing the humane thing and chucking it). It's a K-Tel compilation from the late 70's and has stuff like BOC, Robin Trower, and Boston on it...wonder if it still works...

Over 300 cd's for sure, over a hundred vinyls, over 20 DVD concerts, and my girlfriend has over 50 cassettes.

Duuuude, I could even begin to think of that. This kind of stuff doesn't even cross my mind, really!!
And further more, since my albums are never classified alphabetically .... I couldn't even answer you. >>> if you use the Search facilty (top right of your screen) you should find the thread we had on how we arrange them, so don't start a new one .

I've never counted (too busy listening) but I would estimate my LP collection at 2000+ and my CD collection at 1300 or so. There's not a great deal of duplication between the two. My problem is that I am an out of control consumer rather than a collector. There is way too much good music out there that I haven't heard and I have too broad of tastes in music. There aren't too many genres that I don't like. Not that I like all the artists in any genre. I do have some refinement.

Allow me to take a guess then. Let's say you ripped them all at 128kb/s. Then you've got around 30,000 minutes of music. For the average record with 45-60 minutes, that amounts to 666-500 CDs. (note the Beast's number :D) Those only count for the CDs you actually ripped, so if you've got another 1000 stashed somewhere else.. that's a different story. |
not a bad guestimate - my iPlod tells me I have bothered to transfer 435 CD's to its whirry little disc.
Now I've had time to look at them in daylight - I would say there is in excess of 2000 CD's littered around my house .
My sister catalogued my vinyl onto a spreedsheet while I was at Uni. when I got home I discovered that I didn't own a single Moody Blues album anymore, which she claimed was fair payment

about 200+ cds and 85 vinyls. And I envy all of you who have more. And my excuse is that I'm a poor student.

I might also add that I have all my titles cataloged in an Excel spreadsheet. I've even been tracking the purchase date since '99. I think even more importantly I use a randomizer I've set up in Excel to insure every thing stays in circulation and gets listened to sooner or later. I'd highly recommend getting a log started when you're collection is relatively small, because as you can see from some the posts, when your collection gets large it will become an impossible task. If anyone is interested in getting a copy of my spreadsheet, either the log and/or the randomizer, drop me message with your e-mail and I'll be happy to share. Music file sharing isn't allowed here but I don't think there's any restrictions on sharing a spreadsheet form of my own creation.

I'd say I've got approximatly 65 vinyl LPs and about 200 CDs. Mostly prog but with a good mix of rock, metal, blues and 'classical' music as well.

About 3,000 cds and 1,000 vinyl
Genre-wise it's across the whole spectrum.
Out of the whole collection I'd say that I have approx' 500-800 Prog (and it's sub-genres) albums

I have approximately 800 plus CD's, and a couple hundred of tapes. I lost count of them.
