Muse on this site would be a disaster. They couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Jokes aside, let's not dilute this site by including clones.

then why are there so many damn neo-prog bands on this site - they're all clones!!!

and for that matter Starcastle - the biggest Yes clones ever

and Marillion.... the biggest Genesis.... etcetcetcetcetcetc.......

I like Muse's 'Absolution', and have heard a few other things by them, pretty good stuff. I love Radiohead--one of those dastardly folks who feels they belong here! But no, Muse just doesn't take it as far as Radiohead. In any comparison by any standard, Radiohead is way more adventurous and experimental than Muse...so I take the same stance as Certif1ed, but less enthusiastic about their possible inclusion.

They have many prog sensibilities (unlike Doves or Elbow, who kind of nod towards prog occasionally, but don't go that extra mile) - including an ELP-like bombast; but ultimately I think they're a superb rock band with admirable pretensions. I won't use the word "just", because that might belittle the amazing power of their music.

What is it about Muse that makes you think they're prog? <-Serious question

I agree with your appraisal of Muse. They are an excellent rock band. I think the industry had been crying out for a band like them for quite a while. There is an agression in their music which is complemented by their musicianship.

I dont think they're prog - not as much as Radiohead  - but I reckon they are closet proggers themselves, there are moments of , as you say bombast in their music. Didn't Rick Wakemen cite them as the possible future of British prog??

Not sure about that, but a great band nonetheless, and frankly I couldn't care less if they were in the archives or not. If the consensus is yes, I wont make an issue of it.

Now I cant be accused of stifling debate, at least..

I think ivan was worried that I was about to invade Poland, after my Radiohead poll.

i knew this wud happen. with radiohead in the borderline has been broken , now more non prog bands will be flooding in. yes muse have jus as many prog elements as radiohead, doves and elbow but that doesnt mean they shud be in cos they aint a proper prog band. radiohead shudnt be in, look at all the uproar it has caused! why do we want more trouble
