Any songs or albums in particular? That's actually what spurred me to
start this thread - I listened to a couple of Gong songs and neither of
them had any sax in them, which was kind of disappointing.

"Camembert electrique" and the trilogy features a lot of sax, although not on all pieces.

For a while I thought I'd read "prog with sex".... ![LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) A bad case of one-track mind? ![Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) Besides the excellent recommendations you have already received, I'd like to add Camel with Mel Collins (who also plays with KC), Dick Parry's contributions to Pink Floyd's DSOTM and WYWH, and Traffic (Chris Wood RIP) - "Glad", from their "John Barleycorn Must Die" album, is one of my favourite tracks (instrumental or not) of all times.

That's basically all the best ones. Soft Macheine and Pink Floyd (ocasionally) maybe

Van der Graaf Generator, King Crimson -- highly recommended.
Also: Gnidrolog, East of Eden, Tonton Macoute, Raw Material.
Also, you can search here in the forum for threads and polls about saxophone players where you can find plenty of the names; then to relate it to the groups. I hope it'll be helpful.

Best Examples:
VdGG Embryo Soft Machine (Third-Softs pretty much have sax on them, albeit Fourth is the best example, and then some on Land of Cockayne by Dick Morrissey)/Soft Heap/Soft Head etc...
Any other Elton Dean projects
Lol Coxhill (perhaps my favorite sax player tied with Dean)
Gong (pre Pierre Moerlen 's Gong period)
IF-->feat Dick Morrissey
I'll try to think up some others.

If this has been discussed before, I appologize, but I just started
playing alto sax and I want to listen to some prog with great sax to
inspire me (doesn't have to be alto - any sax will do). Doesn't matter
what genre; I just want saxophone in my music, and I want lots of it.
I'm sure there's a ton of bands out there, so I'm interested to see the
different kinds that will come up!
