How about Franz Beckenbauer? I am very serious; I have seen a special video made for his 50th birthday, and there were some really amazing scenes in it. The one I liked best was when he had the ball and was looking for someone he could pass it to when he was attacked by a player of the opponent's team. He made one simple movement, and the attacker ran past him without really noticing what had happened or where the ball had gone; then he made one of his wide passes. I never saw anything so cool again, not from Pele or Maradona or anyone else.

It's completely obvious that all the guys from England voted/will vote for Pele because of reasons that we already know, and that's why Pele is winning the poll.

But, c'mon, let's face it: Maradona was, is and will be THE BEST football player ever.

I've seen neither of them playing, and documentaries aren't good enough. Guess I'll have to settle with Zidane, Baggio, Matthaus, Hagi, Stoichkov, Bergkamp, Figo...

Both players had legendary skill on the field, but Pele represents everything good about football and is a true Gentleman, whearas Madonna had the greatest cheek football has ever known!!
Gary Lineker recently visited Maradonna and they had a giggle about the "Hand of God" incident, though i could tell Gary was still a bit peeved about it - though i blamed the Ref!!

When you find a three times world champion with more than 1,000 goals and who is a gentleman inside and outside the field, then compare him with Pelé, before.......don't even try.

That's how I feel to! One bit of skill of Pele that amazed me was in World Cup (1962, I think) against Uraguay (again, I think!), where he ran at the goalie with the ball, dummied him (without touching the ball) ran round to recover the ball and rolled the ball just a few inches wide of the post...

Surely if he'd been any good, he would have scored!
