To hear Portnoy's best work you have to listen to his stuff outside of Dream Theater IMHO!

I voted for Portnoy. I think he can adopt to different styles and rythms, whether metal, ballads, complexity ect. I think Peart is sometimes too predictable and dosn't flow as well as Portnoy!

Without Peart, I daresay there would be no Portnoy. I admire both musicians heavily.
Portnoy is much flashier, but the depth of Peart's lyrics is no match to Portnoy's attempts.
The reality? They are islands to each other.

Peart is a master. I like Portnoy, but I hold Peart above all others behind his Drums.

So hereīs a big question. IMO itīs mister Portnoy...
They are very similar though:
Both very technical
Both very creative
Both are geniuses
But Portnoy is WAY cooler!!
I myself got into drumming because of MP and I still adore him. I even had the honor of meeting him (I shook his mighty hand and got his autograph ) couple of months ago. Heīs my hero and allways will be. I know Portnoy has gotten heavily influence of Peart, and many people still consider Mike as Peartīs sort of follower. But I think MP has gotten over that phase, and is now even better than NP. IMO . Tell me what you think.
