^ My strategy is to, while complaining about the hype, keep that separated from enjoying the music.

BTW: The hype is reaching new heights of sillyness ... and what I find most interesting is that a lot of the hype is not created by SW or the label, but by the crowd. May I present to you, a reaction to the trailer to the pre-release of one of the tracks LOL

I agree with this... BIG TIME... The more hype, the less I care.  There's a lot of music coming out right now that is wonderful and isn't saturating the internet.

He's never mentioned Las Vegas, I'm not even sure that city has been a stop for him on past tours so not sure why you are bringing that up.
I suspect this idea of residency will probably only be in the UK and probably very close to home for him.

Hi,

Nice idea ... but you really think he's gonna do concerts with such a small audience and only get paid nickels and dimes? Either that or each ticket will be at least a thousand each, plus half for the company selling the tickets ... and only a handful will be there.

Honestly, the idea is fine, and cool, but his work is not "theater" and has never been until the Ninet piece. I am not sure he can duplicate what she did ... and his audience thing is honorable, and trying to be more theatrical about it, but in the end, his commercial side is not going to lose, unless he wants to do a tour that loses millions and millions ... and almost literally destroys the band as has happened before.

The residency thing is ... hard to deal with ... I guess that Las Vegas is on his RADAR, since LV will pay as much as he wants and then he can do this ... but I doubt that most of us will go to it, and not hear anything else from before ... at some point, I would think many of us will not like the new stuff or material and decide to leave.

I'm not sure he can do this the way he thinks without Las Vegas ... where, at least, he can take money home!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

SW Harmony Codex Interview, Part 1

Interesting reply on touring.....

When it comes to touring this album, what do you envision?

I’m thinking in terms of not touring, but instead doing residencies in a few towns. The reason I would want to go that way is because I think I would want to try and create some kind of immersive equivalent in a concert context. So that the album—that kind of immersive quality the album has—would be transposed to the concert environment. I suppose Kate Bush-style in that respect, except in a smaller venue. Not like a Hammersmith Apollo, like in a small 500, 600 seat place. Have light installation projections. Have spatial audio. Maybe have the audience situated among the musicians? I don’t know. But to me, the idea of just going on tour and…there’s a two-dimensional band up on stage and the audience are out there looking up at this two-dimensional spectacle, I’m not massively interested or inspired by that. And I don’t think this album would apply itself very well to that. I think it needs something different. So, I’m just at the beginning of that process of thinking about that.

^Your funny, Jose. As you should know by now, I'm retired and live on a fixed income. My monthly income is less than what you spent on your turntable cartridge.

If you would have clicked on his website you'd see it's by registration/invitation only, no need to pay anything. My wallet is empty right now so an abundance of moolah is anything more than zero......I am sure you qualify as having an abundance of moolah.

^ I think that people get randomly selected. It's a marketing thing. I don't have any problem with it - the only thing that always annoys me with these big releases is that the finished album sits on a shelf for several months before it is released.Technically he could have released it weeks ago, as a download. But of course that's bad for business ... got to make the deluxe edition box set 360g transparent vinyl crowd happy first.

Boy......everyone's cereal must have had horse pee in it LOL. It's all good, I generally don't listen to any pre-released songs, and SW has yet to do that with this new album other than these select listening events which are by invitation only.

I absolutely CAN wait to hear it. The more marketing hype he generates, the more I'm focusing on the many, many artists who are releasing great music right now, without the hype.

Hi,

Not very original I don't think. Heck, Eno was doing this kind of stuff 40 years ago ... and many thought he was being pretentious! At least, it involved a lot of art ... whereas SW's bit on that video might not be considered art as those were self pictures. Touched up, of course in the SW style!

I tend to agree.......I've read somewhere, similar to HCE. He's doing these listening events in spatial audio, the feedback has been mainly about the sonic experience, although I am getting the sense the content is pretty striking.

Hi,

Ninet is magnificent on that one song in a SW album, and my thoughts were, specially for PT, that his ability to take the material into a more emotional spot as Ninet did, is not something that PT can do, or will do, but the sad thing is that what would (in my book) be the best piece in that album (with Ninet), is something that has not been ignored. It probably took him a while to figure it out, but if this works, it should be magnificent.

Advanced notes on a new something or other is not much of an indication about anything. There are very few artists out there that never tell you anything ... and they will, at least, tell you that they are doing something. But already having a title, is a bit strange ... and probably limiting to the context of the whole idea.

We'll see in a month or two.
