Well, just played Marillion fine using Firefox 1.0.7.

Still not really a fan of streaming but if those mega rich b*st*rds who run record companies feel they are losing SO much money by people downloading a few sample tracks then i guess there isn't really a choice is there...!

A lot of these media companies (TV, Film and Music) will have to adapt to the internet sooner or later.

BTW, I think you did a good job implementing the streaming function, it's one of the better one's I've seen.

The Marillion playlist now loads, but I can't get it to play anything.

I only used the mp3's on the site as a barometer for music that I wasn't familiar with. Most were dl'd,listened to,and deleted,so I don't mind the streaming at all.I listened to a few tunes this morning and had no problems with the stream, and they started playing instantly.

You cannot load the Marillion playlist ? can you load other band's ?

I actually hadn't tried other bands, thinking that if the Marillion one wasn't working, none of the others would be.  However, I've now randomly selected a few bands with the following results: the playlists for Nightwish and Porcupine Tree don't load, while the Jethro Tull playlist loads, but I can't get it to play.

It's not a "feature".  Simply put, you CAN stream music without broadband, but it takes forever, and you can only listen to bits and pieces of the song in 20-second segments with long pauses between, since the bits and bytes can only be sent to the listener at the rate that the dialup connection is physically able to provide.  If it takes 15 minutes to download a 5 minute track, you will be listening to ~20 seconds of song followed by ~40 seconds of silence followed by the next ~20 seconds of song, etc., for 15 minutes.

Probably PA will be not the most acessed prog-website now...

Well... Actually I never downloaded a single mp3 from the site.  I try to seek information about some obscurer bands that might interest me, and I never managed to find any mp3's from those bands.

But I feel very sorry for those who liked that feature.  So you can't stream music to your computer, unless you have a broadband? How does that feature work?

List of coming features:

  • Random playlist by genre, bands ( radio like )
  • Stream only new mp3 added
  • Create a playlist
  • Share your playlist
  • Stream While you navigate through site
  • ...

Please post any suggestions

I am enthused about the above considered improvements.  Like the vast majority here, I personally preferred downloads.  I used WinMediaPlayer and RealJukebox to create playlists, etc.

Random playlist / genre playlist / playlist by date-added / custom playlists are all great features.  I would add playlist by year released as well, if practical.  Of course, that could be prone to error what with re-releases and compilations, but it could work.

For those of us who listen @ work with T1/T2 or @ home with high-speed internet, all of this is great.  I will probably benefit from it in the long run.  I do, however, sympathize with those who are stuck on dialup and don't have a desk job with access to broadband technology.

On a related note, I had been downloading MP3s from here alphabetically for the last month... I had merely gotten through most of the A's. :-(

I've never seen any Ayreon tracks here.  If they had been here, I would have downloaded them .  Of course, the complaint could have come in before I joined.

I know you've probably considered this M@X, but couldn't you just remove the mp3s of those labels that have complained, and leave the rest here?  I would have thought that it would mean that only a small percentage of the bands featured here would be affected.  This means that people like me who can't stream the files would still have access to them (Marillion playlist still loading after 5 hours).
