Very good question !
I guess the answer depends on subjective matters.
My subjective opinion is that the album is all great. The music is well fitted to the lyrics. The idea of describing persons as one of 3 kinds, each kind gets a different animal (and pigs gets 3 different ones) is truely amazing. One of my favorite albums of all time and for many years now.
After saying all that, my choice is dogs. maybe the great lyrics ever.

Funny thing that Sheep doesn't get too much credit,it is not only the best of Animals, but one of Floyd's best.

I agree with you: when I made a private 3-CD "Best of Floyd", "Sheep" was my first choice. This song is perfect in all senses with great lyrics and a stunning melody.

Dogs but only just.
Anyone noticed the similarity to this and Anathema's "Pulled under at 2000 metres a second"?

This could be one of the hardest questions ever... but i think i'm gonna have to go with SHEEP! I love the way the vocals blend into the keyboard effects in the verse section, and it comes to an amazing finale!

I'd have to say Dogs. The whole album is really Pink Floyd at its peak. Waters has, by this point, taken over the overall message of these songs and most of the control. He does vocally work very well on both sheep and pigs. But it has to be gilmour that steals it for me on Dogs, both with guitar and vocals. The whole song is just perfect and the lyrics are beyond amazing. The chord sequence written by gilmour was supposedly so that he could play almost any note in the solo. Whatever he does, it works, BIG TIME! Anyway, dogs is my favourite, followed very closely by sheep. |

They are all superb tracks, but "Dogs" PWNS "Sheep" and "Pigs"

There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime.
