I think it will last this time around. I've put some measures in place to keep it from spiraling out of control.
And yes- damage does not carry over to the next round.

Do not despair. There are ways to return:
1. Sell you equipment.
2. Wager your remaining gold on matches.
3. Borrow!
Yes borrow. If a transaction is made in bold, someone might say:
Holy Moly, I will give you 10 gold for 12 gold in the future.
In that case, you have an agreement!
Some have done well in this game as moneylenders...
