When we had chickens we would butcher them ourselves, as well as the pigs. I got used to the chickens but I never could watch the pigs. After they are dead I am pretty OK with skinning/cutting them up.

I did see a deer killed once but that was only because it walked in front of my car and a farmer came along and put it out of its misery.  I felt dreadful.

Besides, I thought a crossbow was sufficient to kill a deer with?

I try my best not to even kill bugs. Yeah I've set them outside before.
I say try because sometimes I got no choice, especially when living with other people.
