[QUOTE=JJLehto]
But that's old news. Back in the 90s Bill Hicks was already making fun of how California will slide into the ocean. And let's be honest, do we really need their baseball teams?  :PIt could be all media sensation but I remember hearing that in LA supposedly no one really cares anyway. Like they go, they watch but its all "chill man"
[/QUOTE/]

I enjoyed watching the Lasorda Dodgers of the 70's and '80 from the comfort of a bleacher bench at Chavez Ravine.

Been watching the movie 2012 lately?
I was actually thinking of the Superman movie, but I did see 2012 fairly recently too. LOL

If you get a chance to pick up this week's Sports Illustrated (Sporstman of the year, Pat Summitt and Coach K on cover), they have an excellent article chronicling the last day of the regular season. I'm a Rays fan and was in a hotel room in Minneapolis with an early morning business appointment.  But I stayed up until the bitter end and it was unbelievable as most of you know. Great article, except for maybe Red Sox and Brave fan.
Biggles was in rehab last Saturday

There will never truly be any such thing as a post-steroid era... Steroids exist. No matter we do to try to prevent them, we're never going to cause them to cease to exist, and because they exist, they will be used.

They won't, most likely, because it's never been done, but... In a situation where Matt Kemp clearly had the best season in the majors last year offensively and was better than Braun defensively, too, I think they ought to consider passing it to Kemp. It'd feel like a cheapened award, but Kemp deserved it to begin with.

Good thing too, Arizona has been waiting patiently enough for a beach.

I have even gotten over my hatred of the Diamondbacks.

All true gents, just most talks are pointless for the A rods, CCs (and now Pujols) that even for baseball have insane loads of money.
No doubt sports are as much business for them as entertainment for us.

My point was just I dont care about money THAT much. I'd be content with 20millLOL and wouldn't feel obliged to move. Esp if I won a WS. Now....St Louis vs LA? IDK which city I'd prefer though obviously much "more" in LA.

Well for us pooor folk the cost of a house is HUGE concern when moving, like Scott says, he could not replace his house out west or in NY.
I guess my point is there is a business side to all pro athletes (plus a greedy agent) where they ARE a company. Its PUJOLS COMPANY, Inc. And he sees a money making opportunity for his business....he took it. And I think his situation is a bit different, he just won a WS...so he was probably ready for a move, especially when all year long the Cards apperantly did not want to lock him up as he may have expected them to do, and maybe for less money.
He is latin, he will do very well in L.A. and be very comfortable.........in his $4MM house, chump change for him.

True, but at one time I had heard St. Louis had offered a similar contract and then I heard that they didn't, so I don't know what they actually offered him.

On the sucky side, Miguel Cabrera will probably never win an AL MVP, Silver Slugger, or be the All-Star starter for the next 10 years.

Yeah, Scott, I don't think "cost of living" factors in when you're talking this amount of money.  $25 mil a year gets you nice sh*t wherever you are.

Most probably.....higher pay means more going to your retirement account, so there are added benefits, even if maybe at first you don't like the new city.
Now if you are making $125K and someone offers you $200K? Yea I bet anyone jumps on that in a heartbeat! Now I agree with your point....if I am making $5MM and another company offers me $5.5MM, but I am perfectly happy and like where I live..pretty good chance I pass, don't need it....but make that $7MM......I'm gone Big smile.

100% agree with the A-rod performance comments, he's just a very good player right now, nowhere near an impact player and probably should be traded off (not sure if possible) to a team that needs some help. Jeter is beyond class act......shoulder to shoulder with Ripken for sure.
I think it depends on where you are moving though.  $5MM in the midwest is worth a lot more than $5MM in New York City or California or Chicago where the cost of living is much higher.  That was a huge raise for Pujols, but the cost of living in California is probably crazy compared to the cost of living in Missouri.  I've heard it said that my $150,000 home here in Michigan would cost $400,000 to $500,000 in California.
