Yeah, I'll agree with the first post. Prog isn't quite as old as some people think it is but I'll concur that it officially started in 1969.  I was born in 1970 so I'm almost as old. Smile

Older than anyone that's around playing it. Including Dave Brubeck.

I think I could name a few jazz musicians older than Brubeck.

I would prefer to think that it goes back a few more years ... and had started even before that ... since there was a lot of black jazz and blues around, some of which got recorded and some which didn't ... and for anyone of us to assume that music never existed simply because we never heard it, is kind of incredulous and insane.

My guess is that music has forever been progressive ... and is now older than all of us put together and then some ... after all Mozart is a massive progression on Bach, Beethoven is a massive progression on Mozart, and Stravinsky a massive progression on Beethoven, and Tales from Topographic Oceans an even more massive progression on all that!

I guess it depends on your perspective ... and your age or child.

At any rate ... Happy Birthday!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Prog might have been born in 1969, but controversy has existed forever in human society.

Prog has no time as I can still listen to Syd Barret's voice. Terrapin has been the first song of 2011...Beer
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution
