There was a lengthy piece in one of the latest issues of CR Prog where their then frontman walked through the various influences on IQs The Wake. If memory serves me right, both Psychedelic Furs and A Flock of Seagulls were namedropped in that article. Otherwise Twelfth Night / Geoff Mann are commonly associated with a distinct new wave tendency, and a close and critical listen of a tune like Assassing by Marillion should also reveal inclinations in that direction.
Violet Hour may possibly be better described as a Crossover act really, as their debut had quite a few more distinctly mainstream oriented numbers. The fact that they opened extensively for Marillion is argubly the main reason for their placement in Neo, as well as Dream of me and a couple of tunes exploring similar waters on their one and only effort.
Doris is a most charming lady indeed. Kind too as a matter of fact, as well as being blessed with gorgeus looks of course.

I wonder what artists you are pointing at. Now I''m playing the sample of The Violet Hour's Dream of Me. I remember attending a Marillion gig during the Holidays in Eden tour, when this band, in the finest hour of their short existence, entered the stage as a support act. The audience was mostly impressed... not by their music, but by the looks at that Doris girl and most of the songs they played sounded more like new wave than like Neo-Prog. Nevertheless, I regarded (only) this song as a masterpiece, as I still do, nineteen years later. It just slipped my mind... Edited by someone_else - October 09 2010 at 16:41 |

Haven't seen the thread maker around here for a while. Maybe the Russian music made him run.

Explaining why Pure is better than Foxtrot wouldn't be so hard for me. |

Much easier to join Neo. A few lines describing why Pendragon's Pure is a more important album than Genesis Foxtrot should suffice. Oh, and noticing just how new wave was incorporated into early Neo as well. |

I'm pretty sure I'm eligible for reviewer status now that I have 30... still, I probably won't be one for a long while. |

Well, the fact that Max has let the Russians pick the Admins for PA and the longest thread in the hidden Admin forum earlier this year was "How do we insulate our huts against minus 60 ?" should tell you everything about that team and their lives in Novosibirsk, Siberia. |
