On paper they have a fantastic team.  However, Fabregas was on the bench... why?

I watched them lose in math class today, quite enjoyed it

One of the Swiss players almost made such a gorgeous goal (which would have been the 2nd; it was near the end of the game)  where he dangled 3 defencemen and then shot it with the outside of his foot...POST.  DAMMIT

It would have been beautiful

If Spain takes the second place they are gonna play (most probably) with Brasil at the next stage, which is not desirable
Really don't mind if you sit this one out.

^ Yeah, they can be beaten with that strategy but, if Spain make it to the elimination stage, they will meet opponents more likely to play a more open game. So we'll see.

OK, having seen the first round of the group stage, I have managed to make a list of four major candidates: Brazil, Spain (downgraded from no.1 for the moment), Germany and Argentina. I don't see Holland, England and Italy as potential winners, but you can never know.

I didn't even realize North Korea qualified, if they had won that would have been the funniest thing ever. And now if anybody loses to Brazil worse than 2-1 they'll have to commit suicide out of shame.

in 1982 Brasil was playing superbly in the first group matches and Italy was playing very poor. They proceded next round just for 1 goal.

Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
 Poland 3 1 2 0 5 1 +4 4
 Italy 3 0 3 0 2 2 0 3
 Cameroon 3 0 3 0 1 1 0 3
 Peru 3 0 2 1 2 6 −4 2

and then in the second group matches, quarter final, semi final and final Italy won all the matches and played amazing football. So don't bother to wait till you see their first round matches .

Interesting stat. I was not the crazed football fan I am now, back then. I appreciate the history. That said, I'll go with Spain for this poll, but will route for my good old USA!

It's time for the Netherlands to become the world champ for once, so I give my wishful thinking a free ride and become a chauvinist pig for once, even though we may have a number of showroom models with swollen egos in our team.

Note: It is not my habit to be a football supporter.
