That was how I found out the score was seeing that newspaper headline on the net somewhere.

No vote, haven't seen every one play yet, including Brazil and Spain. From the games played so far Germany and Argentina look good. Let's see after all the teams have played.

in 1982 Brasil was playing superbly in the first group matches and Italy was playing very poor. They proceded next round just for 1 goal.

Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

and then in the second group matches, quarter final, semi final and final Italy won all the matches and played amazing football. So don't bother to wait till you see their first round matches .

It's time for the Netherlands to become the world champ for once, so I give my wishful thinking a free ride and become a chauvinist pig for once, even though we may have a number of showroom models with swollen egos in our team.

Note: It is not my habit to be a football supporter.

Interesting stat. I was not the crazed football fan I am now, back then. I appreciate the history. That said, I'll go with Spain for this poll, but will route for my good old USA!

I didn't even realize North Korea qualified, if they had won that would have been the funniest thing ever. And now if anybody loses to Brazil worse than 2-1 they'll have to commit suicide out of shame.

OK, having seen the first round of the group stage, I have managed to make a list of four major candidates: Brazil, Spain (downgraded from no.1 for the moment), Germany and Argentina. I don't see Holland, England and Italy as potential winners, but you can never know.

I will stand by my Spain prediction even with this disappointing setback

-------------

Posted By: harmonium.ro

^ Yeah, they can be beaten with that strategy but, if Spain make it to the elimination stage, they will meet opponents more likely to play a more open game. So we'll see.

Posted By: b4usleep
Date Posted: June 16 2010 at 11:17
If Spain takes the second place they are gonna play (most probably) with Brasil at the next stage, which is not desirable

On paper they have a fantastic team.  However, Fabregas was on the bench... why?

I watched them lose in math class today, quite enjoyed it

One of the Swiss players almost made such a gorgeous goal (which would have been the 2nd; it was near the end of the game)  where he dangled 3 defencemen and then shot it with the outside of his foot...POST.  DAMMIT

It would have been beautiful

Argentina has had a very good start. If they continue like that, they’ll be hard to beat.

they (Spain) have my preference, but I voted Brazil, because a European team never won the WC outside Europe.

Actually Germany deserved to win.  But unregistered gol ruined the match. And finaly what a bad defensive line of England in all 4 goals.

I think you guys are optimistic. Yeah Germany can win it, it's possible, but there are other much more solid teams: Argentina and Brazil. Both Germany and Spain have shown major weaknesses (but I agree that they can both catch a good day and blast any other team off the field). Also, I would have added The Netherlands to my favourites list that I posted at the time of the group phase (Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain), but unfortunately one of Brazil and Netherlands will have to stop in the quarter finals and I think it will be them.

OK, who voted for England?

Paraguay, because I drew them in the sweepstake at work.

Posted By: b4usleep
Date Posted: June 29 2010 at 06:53
Spain - Portugal. Either team could progress i predict Spain
Paraguay - Japan. Difficult to predict but i give paraguay a bit bigger chance

Quarter finals
Argentina - Germany. Match of the Giants. Difficult to beat Germans but i think Messi will find a way.
Uruguay or Ghana guaranteed the 4th place, probably Uruguay.
Brazil - Netherland. Netherland has no change at all.
Paraguay - Spain. (or Japan- Spain) Easy for Spain

semi finals
Brazil - Uruguay (or Ghana) Easy for Brazil
Argentina - Spain. Easier than beating Germany

3rd place
Uruguay (or Ghana) - Spain. Spain has a big edge

Final

Argentina - Brasil. Would be a fantastic dreamy final and absolutely unpredictable. Brazilian defence line is almost perfect. No one could help Argentina except Messi.
