I agree. I think we should do what we do, and see that's it done, before thinking about doing something else we could that we're not doing. Like 100 bands that you should know about. Followed by 100 bands that you have to know about. And finally 100 bands that you have no choice, you're going to know before you go find out what you want to in the first place. Or , why do we let people who don't know about band X or genre Y review albums ? How dare they say they merit but 1 star !. Or, we can't let this band / album / genre get 5 star ratings because people will rush out and buy / love it and miss out on this band / album / genre that I just gave a 5 star rating to

You're wrong, these bands are not from Kurdistan: Yfhddfk and Ytruieywb were from Iceland (even if Ytruieywb is Welsh for "improvisation"). Yfhddfk nearly made it to join the R.I.O. festivals, but their singer tragically died in a geyser incident in 1977, leading the survivors to become Ytrueywb. Ytrueywb was the first rock band to tour in the North Pole. Alas, their boat was sinked by the Sovietic Marine: the music of this avant-garde band sounded like the motors of the US cruisers.
Etrtjefib was a short-lived Hungarian jazz-rock which turned zeuhl on their 2nd and last LP in 1977. Rumour has it the 9 musicians all left Hungary for a trip to Tibet and never returned, starving either on the K2, or on the Himalaya. Other people said they were abducted in the Caucasian mountains by aliens.
Usygurjdh is one of the few examples of Mongolian rock bands: strongly influenced by Pink Floyd, they seem to have recorded two cassettes in 1976 and 1977. Reports about half of the band turning berzerk and trying to invade China alone with swords and bows, riding horses, seem to be true. The other half of the band tried to invade Russia.

I believe that would fall under "posts of any sort", which I have purposefully eradicated due to their potentially offensive nature.

I agree that it is generally good forum etiquette to wake up an older thread, and maybe a gentle debriefing that the chosen topic has become something of a joke - when done in good humor and reminding the new member that they are welcome - rather than mocking, which tends to fly under the radar of the Rule #2 you pointed out... |
While I have my disagreements with the way this site is moderated, I would say that a lax attitude towards personal attacks. Perhaps the problem is with the two long time posters' reactions to things, not the things that are actually being said...
Honestly, I can't get upset about someone hassling a newbie a little bit. There are certain unwritten rules that govern every forum, and you lurk a little bit before you start posting so you don't look like an idiot. If you don't bother to do that, or you don't bother to follow even basic forum procedures like doing a simple search, then you deserve a little bit of "zest" in the responses to your thread.

I do know of at least two very good long-time members of PA who don't dare post here any more because of the condescending and insulting attitudes of many members.

Everything there should be noted. This forum is terrible for this.
As much as I love it here,I get fed up with everyones over reactions to various newbie posts.

That is why if I see a thread that I don't feel like answering again, I don't. The only time I've pulled the "be mean to newbies" card was that one thread that the OP posted in all caps, in which almost everyone who posted mocked the OP by posting in caps.
