I'm with Tony on this, use it or lose it.
We've bemoaned the lack of mainstream interest for decades, it's here, and it's not been easy, it's ultimately good for everyone, I'm sick of all the sn****ring micro articles in mainstream mags, this is one for us, and that can only be good. It's going to grow if there is sufficient interest, ok, I might have some biase, but it's good for everyone, it really is! I was pretty impressed! |

that wouldn't be because of the interview with and photos of a certain prog singer/guitarist by any chance?

I think it may be a bit too early for the mag to get to the US, if today was its official release date in the UK. I was at Barnes and Noble today, but of course I didn't see it. Anyway, both Borders and B&N generally stock Classic Rock and its offshoots, so I would wait a bit before ordering it from the publishers. |

Hey all, I'm The Reasoning's manager and we're in the first issue and on the cover cd so I might be slightly biased but we're all rather chuffed that Future are trying this out, and with the mighty Jerry Ewing at the helm, who knows?!? At last, proper music gets a decent bit of publicity, and there's a voice for contemporary bands as well, so that can only be a good thing!!! BUY IT!!
Happy reading everyone! |

They should probably employ a few of us to do their research!

Let's hope their research improves. A short piece on Yes' debut album in the current edition credits the guitar work to Steve Howe.

Why is that a fault? I thought it was quite funny! You're just jealous Mr Garten.

Hopefully it will last some time... I know that CR's publisher (Future Publishing) has launched many mags over the years, only to see them bite the dust after a few issues. However, kudos to them for keeping on trying!

Exactly why we still subscribe - despite its many faults (whole page this month devoted to how Mick Wall got wasted with Dave Lee Roth on women, Jack Daniels & cocaine) they do take prog seriously, have regular articles on the lesser known bands from the classic age & every now & again come up with an issue where I want to read every article (they gave the Pendies new album a big thumbs up too ). How long a quarterly mag devoted to prog will last is a moot point, but we shall see - and yes, the first issue will contain all the usual suspects... it's the subsequent ones which will prove worthwhile (or otherwise) - still, free CD |

Don't want to sound un-supportive of the cause, but at $116 a year (USD I believe, so add 20% for CAD), I'll be perusing it at the local Chapters book store ...

Here you are: https://www.imsnews.com/home.php?page=magPage&pubid=189 It's quite a hefty sum for us across the pond, but I've always found the service very good in general (they will always answer email queries, and send you extra copies for free if something is missing). Anyway, before I subscribe, I want to see the first issue, and go from there. |

To be fair to them, they do have regular free CDs showcasing new bands and reviews of new material. The reason why I think that this might be better than the regular magazine (which I have brought from the start) is that prog is still (pardon the pun) progressing, whilst Zep, GnR et al can only be written about so many times in varying degrees of interest without repetition. |
