Eraserhead for me, but The Elephant Man, Dune, and Mullholand Drive are also excellent.

It wasn't until I was well into my 30's before I could really "get" Elephant Man. Now I think its absolutely brilliant.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I voted Dune because the sleeper must awaken. LOL

I was in college and went to see it several times.  I didn't pay any attention to who was the director, just liked the movie.  Became a Lynch fan with Twin Peaks then Wild At Heart came out and that pretty much cemented it for me.  Loved all the ones he did after that.  Inland Empire has been a bit hard to stomach.  Good stuff to watch if you're up late and there's nothing but crap on.

Mulholland!  Straight Story was actually my first Lynching, but I didn't know Lynch then, but still thought it was pretty good.  Mulholland rocked my world though.  I love it.  In fact maybe I'll watch it tomorrow because its been a while.

Inland Empire was realllllllllllly crazy.  Took me a bit to finish it.  Blue Velvet was amazing too. Elephant Man a bit more straight, but still well done.  Wild at Heart is probably my second favorite with Lost Highway following.

Oh almost forgot about Fire Walk with Me! Also brilliant, and tense.  Hopefully, the man takes a break from all that meditation school business and starts another film soon.

Lynch is probably my favorite director and Twin Peaks is my favorite work by him, but since that's not an option, I went with Mulholland Dr.

Eh, whatever, the answer is Mullholland Dr. Far and away the best thing he's ever done, and that's counting Twin Peaks.

My best of:

1. Mullholland Dr.
2. Twin Peaks (since I'm only counting the episodes he was around for and not that mid-season 2 absence this is some serious quality)
3. Blue Velvet
4. Eraserhead
5. Inland Empire

David Lynch is along with Kubrick my favorite director. So pick... that´s it...

I´m going with Mullholand dirve, which is one of my favorite movies ever. After that... it´s a toss between Inland Empire and Blue Velvet
