Yeti. That was Amon Duul II. Check out the little highlight baldfriede provided four posts ago and I think that you`ll find that Krautrock Explosion is a bit more mind blowing than Yeti. Not that Yeti isn`t mind blowing it`s just that Krautrock explosion is a bit more mind blowing.

Other German bands that are worthy of being explored:

Aera
Tiere der Nacht (a side project of Guru Guru drummer Mani Neumeier; the band name means "Animals of the Night. They are not in the archives yet).
Space Explosion (a short-lived German supergroup which also featured Neuimeier, but also Amon Düül 2 multi-instrumentalist and singer Chris Karrer). Their only self-titled album was re-released under the band  name "Amon Guru", including some bonus tracks; it was retitled "Die Krautrock Explosion" in the re-release. It is very much in the vein of early Kraufrock. You can hear the whole Amon Guru album online here:
http://tinyurl.com/87dr6j
The line-up (besides Karrer and Neumeier) is Jürgen Engler of German band Die Krupps (guitar), Dieter Moebius of Harmonia (keyboards), Werner "Zappi" Diermaier of Faust (percussion) and Jean-Hervé Peron (also of Faust) guitarand trumpet. An all-star line-up indeed!
And yet another side project of Mani Neumeier (that man is full of energy, and he is going on 70!):
Psychedelic Monsterjam, featuring Ax Genrich from early Guru Guru days on guitar and Dave Schmidt aka Sulana Bassana on bass. They released two live albums so far, a self-titled one and "Intergalactic Travel Agency". Krautrock of the finest!

There's so much great "Prog" from Germany.

Faust is one of the bands that got me into Krautrock.

Good advice there. I got into them one by one throughout the seventies and early part of the eighties. Go slow some of it can get really crazy.

There is a lot of German bands I hadn´t listened to yet.
The ones I know of are Embryo and Birth Control (I like them
but have to come over again with more open ears) and
Vanden Plas (I love some of their albums and they have
Wish you were here in Christ.0 which is one of my favourite
songs from any band).

I´ll go slowly cause there´s a lot to know and, I´m hoping, to enjoy.

The water rushes over all
cities crash in the mighty wave;
the final man is very small,
plunging in for his final bathe

Amon Duul on tour again. Renate is 60 and she still has it . I hate all the Grace Slick comparisons. Renate`s weird witchy vocals are sensual in a very well, unique witchy way. Chris Karrer is simply an amazing multi-instrumentalist/composer. I`ll be in the UK in the Spring but I can`t find any dates yet anywhere. Anyone?

Guru Guru, Can, Amon Düül 2 and Embryo are among my very favourite bands. Up to a certain point also Tangerine Dream, but sadly they changed their music completely and became less interesting. Of the lesser known bands I especially like Dzyan, Annexus Quam, Frumpy (although they are rather untypical for a German band), and Between. To name just a few though. Krautrock rules!

Have you tried a search like http://www.progarchives.com/top-prog-albums.asp?salbumtypes=1&syears=2009&syears=2008&syears=2007&syears=2006&syears=2005&syears=2004&syears=2003&syears=2002&syears=2001&scountries=77&scountries=177&sminratings=0&smaxratings=0&sminavgratings=1.0&smaxresults=250&x=89&y=5
this huge link before?

Personally, I forgot about Dark Suns, Haggard (though not THAT new, as well as Poverty's No Crime) and Sylvan (check out Posthumous Silence!). Also, for something more unknown, Sunpath is worth a listen. All those bands (besides Sylvan) are more or less located in the metal realm. I hope you find something for you Smile

"Because they are deeper in the underground of music than before"
I hope someone can tell me about at least few bands...
Metabolismus (http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2550) seems to be a good new german band...
