from wikipedia:

Crack the Skye is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Mastodon, scheduled to be released in early 2009 through Reprise Records. It will feature seven tracks and run at approximately 50 minutes.[1][2][3]

Drummer Brann Dailor described the album as more “focussed” [4] than its predecessor, Blood Mountain: “Maybe there was a deeper heart to this record that needed more exploring… We got more involved with feeling the vibe of the record and everything feels more creepy and spaced out and something special is going on.” [5]

Dailor said the record would tell a story dealing variously with the art aesthetics of Tsarist Russia, astral travel, out of body experiences and Stephen Hawking's theories on wormholes. [6]

 Track listing

  1. "Oblivion"
  2. "Divinations"
  3. "Quintessence"
  4. "The Czar"
    1. "Usurper"
    2. "Escape"
    3. "Martyr"
    4. "Spiral"
  5. "Ghost of Karelia"
  6. "Crack the Skye" (featuring Scott Kelly)[7]
  7. "The Last Baron"
I'm definitely looking forward to it. Leviathan was my favourite, though I loved blood mountain, and I'm glad they've been doing something different with each album. I love the idea of Mastodon making something "creepy" and "spaced out".
