from wikipedia:

Crack the Skye is the fourth studio album by American http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_music - heavy metal band http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastodon_%28band%29 - Mastodon , scheduled to be released in early 2009 through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reprise_Records - Reprise Records . It will feature seven tracks and run at approximately 50 minutes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_the_Skye#cite_note-0 - [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_the_Skye#cite_note-1 - [2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_the_Skye#cite_note-2 - [3]

Drummer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brann_Dailor - Brann Dailor described the album as more “focussed” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_the_Skye#cite_note-3 - [4] than its predecessor, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_Mountain - Blood Mountain : “Maybe there was a deeper heart to this record that needed more exploring… We got more involved with feeling the vibe of the record and everything feels more creepy and spaced out and something special is going on.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_the_Skye#cite_note-4 - [5]

Dailor said the record would tell a story dealing variously with the art aesthetics of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsarist_Russia - Tsarist Russia , astral travel, out of body experiences and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Hawking - Stephen Hawking 's theories on wormholes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_the_Skye#cite_note-5 - [6]

 Track listing

  1. "Oblivion"
  2. "Divinations"
  3. "Quintessence"
  4. "The Czar"
    1. "Usurper"
    2. "Escape"
    3. "Martyr"
    4. "Spiral"
  5. "Ghost of Karelia"
  6. "Crack the Skye" (featuring http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Kelly_%28musician%29 - Scott Kelly ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_the_Skye#cite_note-6 - [7]
  7. "The Last Baron"
I'm definitely looking forward to it. Leviathan was my favourite, though I loved blood mountain, and I'm glad they've been doing something different with each album. I love the idea of Mastodon making something "creepy" and "spaced out".

Definitely good news. Something to look forward to. Mastodon not only has not disappointed us yet, but they keep getting better.

Is it the "wind album"?

I can't remember how long it was that i read a bulletin on their Myspace about them writing new music. I'm glad to see we'll finally be hearing some new goodness soon.

Good god I love Mastodon, I cant wait for this.
Just a shame they didn't play any new material when They played in Wolverhampton a few weeks ago.
Hell of a band, this album will doubtlessly be excellent.

You can actually listen to the whole album in their Myspace site.

It seems they have gone softer than their last albums...

I would really love to like this band, the cover-works are SO DAMN GOOD!!!!!

But the music fails to grab me at all....

This album probably has the worst concept anyone has ever conceived for an album.

The music is ok, but disappointing compared to Leviathan (my only other exposure to the band).

Concept? Who cares about a concept (except conceptualists, and who cares about them?). I don't even understand most of the lyrics. But this is a kickanus progrock recording. If you don't like it, don't stay, run away.
