They are really good, but MONTY PYTHON is way beyond.

ok, Frasier was good, but I got confused from time to time as to whether is was up its own ass, or whether it was making fun of people who were up their own asses. It is certainly more dense than Seinfeld, and it takes itself much more seriously. You just have to look at the last episode of Seinfeld and see how norm-shattering it was.

They're good, but early Frasier beats it...

I would say that Seinfeld is the best TV show of all time. I mean, look at sitcoms pre- and post-Seinfeld. Before it, you'd get genuinely funny stuff (All in the Family, I Love Lucy), but they would always be hampered by nauseatingly cheesy life lessons that had little or nothing to do with the episode until the very end (see: Cosby Show). Hell, even Married With Children had its share of lessons that felt out of place. Seinfeld broke that with the mantra "No hugging; no learning." From Seinfled we got shows like The Office (the UK version which is a lot blacker, though the final special did have a lot of heart), Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and a number of Showtime and HBO comedies. By not breaking the humor to teach some hackneyed lesson, it could be as dark and satirical or as slapsticky as it wanted.

Yes, I believe it is the greatest comedy show ever, Monty Python included. It's situational comedy, though, so I dunno if I can vote based on its jokes.

As far as US commercial television goes I agree that it is the funniest show ever. There have been series' on HBO, Showtime, etc. that were hilarious but they didn't have the FCC restrictions that Seinfeld had to cope with. The show will still make us laugh 50 years on.

It's British, and thus somewhat satyrical. Also very good. My personal favourites are Black Books and Blackadder (especially Goes Forth), and I'm quite enjoying The IT Crowd.

Heehee. I'll take the second option and specify "The Young Ones" as my favourite comedy series.
