How absurd! That's a very ignorant generalization. Look man I have nothing against wine, but I do object to the whole "better than you" mentality that some wine drinkers seem to have. And, beer is not just for "sleazy metalheads". The majority of the people who voted in this poll choose beer. Do you think all of those people are "sleazy metalheads"?

Try to taste a glass of pure ice cold water and then take an ice cold Bud, you won't taste the difference ..

Beer all the way. I may have the occasional glass of wine with a meal, but nothing beats an ice cold Bud after a long day at work.

Hmmm...not sure about this one. I'm not to crazy about brewers putting fruit in my beer. Perhaps, it's an acquired taste??

Kriek is awesome! I last had some a couple of years ago, when I visited Brussels. The apple one sounds interesting too - I have to admit to a liking for fruity beers!

How about Delirium Tremens? Great beer, plus the name reminds me of a certain song!

Erik, they all look tasty although the apple one might be something of an acquired taste for me. Never been a real fan of fruity beers. Which beer is your favorite?

We're also very fond of a particular Italian white called Vernaccia, also grown in that region.

You certainly mean Vernaccia di San Gimignano, which is probably the only white wine of note produced in Tuscany (and hopefully you also visited its town of origin, the beautiful San Gimignano of the many towers).

That's what I mean, and yes we visited San Gimignano and it was incredible. We had the most delicious pastries (and cappuccino) at this place called Marcella's.

IMHO, the best whites in Italy are produced in the valleys just beneath the Alps, in the area called Alto Adige. They are just out of this world! BTW, I lived in Tuscany for eight years, and I see what you mean... Even if I'm more used to it than you are, the picnic you described sounds heaven to me too!
