Beer is very underrated because many worldwide snobs did the people believe that wine has a superior taste to beer, NO! Just try La Chouffe, Gouden Carolus Classic, Grimbergen, Optimo Bruno, Sean Trane Special Wink ...

I drink both - and Erik is very much right about beer. Still, I voted wine, because that's what I drink more and like more. Reason? Can't explain, just like I can't explain my taste in music.....

I agree that beer is severly underrated in comparison to wine.  Wine is like classical music because of the connotation of it being part of the upper class and all the elitism that comes with it; which is a shame.  Beer tends to be associated with the working class.  I don't know why this is.  I know of people who collect wine and have wine tasting parties, but I don't know anybody who has beer tasting parties.  To bad too, because there are so many great beers from around the world that most people have never tried.  It seems here in the U.S. the attitude is worse - it's either Budweiser or nothing at all.  Which means many of the great beers of the world go largely unnoticed.  Cry

Wine is amazing.  When one gets a chance to taste a top class Barolo or Nebbiola he feels like he's in beverage heaven.  I'll take the wine anyday.

Never tried either, but you certainly make them sound worthwhile.  I'll have to given them both a try.  Life is too short to drink bad wine (or beer for that matter).Smile

I love beer and red wine, but not during the same session.

I actually prefer to drink wine in the house and beer in the pub. The only time I mix the two is if I go for a curry. I love a strong Cab Sauv with a Madras, but a few strong lagers for afters.

My beer of choice is Theakstons Old Peculiar.

I must also admit that in North West England it is socially "unacceptable" for a bloke to drink wine in a pub--well in the pubs I frequent,it is.....

Feel free to drop by when you are in Italy, as I still have some vintage Barolo (lovingly collected by my late father, who was a lover and connoisseur of fine wines) secreted in my cellar. I must admit it's not my favourite, as it is a bit to strong for my taste - but it is undoubtedly one of the best wines to drink with roast red meat or game. I'm more of a white wine person myself, and I absolutely love dessert wines!Heart

I've almost given up drinking beer, as it seems to disagree with me most of the time. However, I've tried some quality Belgian beers (like the ones Erik mentioned), and I have to say they're fantastic.

Heaven was drinking Chianti Classico with meats, bread, and the vineyard's own olive oil, on a patio looking out over the Tuscan hills.  My wife and I vacationed in Italy a few years ago, and it was the best trip I've ever been on, I don't think anything can top it.  I can't wait to get back.

We're also very fond of a particular Italian white called Vernaccia, also grown in that region.

You certainly mean Vernaccia di San Gimignano, which is probably the only white wine of note produced in Tuscany (and hopefully you also visited its town of origin, the beautiful San Gimignano of the many towers). IMHO, the best whites in Italy are produced in the valleys just beneath the Alps, in the area called Alto Adige. They are just out of this world! Heart

BTW, I lived in Tuscany for eight years, and I see what you mean... Even if I'm more used to it than you are, the picnic you described sounds heaven to me too!Wink

Censored How absurd!  That's a very ignorant generalization.  Look man I have nothing against wine, but I do object to the whole "better than you" mentality that some wine drinkers seem to have.  And, beer is not just for "sleazy metalheads".  Angry  The majority of the people who voted in this poll choose beer.  Do you think all of those people are "sleazy metalheads"?  Stern Smile

Beer. I like wine, but I just prefer beer. Beer also goes better with curry and chinese; fish and chips; steak pie and gravy; Mexican or chilli. Wine goes better with French cuisine; subtle Italian flavours; cheese and biscuits. Heck, guess I'm just a slob at heart.

And of my two favourite keyboardists, Wakeman is - or was - a beer man, Emerson went for wine, so er...hic.....

Beer. Especially brown ale, pale ale, german weiss bier and hefeweizen, and an array of Belgian abbys whatever I may find when I go abroad, because in my country there is not developed a culture of beer. We produce only light lager, and mostly poor quality.

Wine is fine, especially red I like.

I'm more of a wine person myself (Peter was in fact correct, wine is for girls...Tongue), but I can appreciate really good beer, especially the ones Erik mentioned (not Bud though - I'd rather drink water!Dead) - and I think certain generalisations are not worthy of intelligent people. Many of my friends love both beer and wine, and they're neither metalheads (which is no problem to me) nor sleazy.

You're the first person to ask me about my Portuguese emblem.  Well, I'm half-Portugese (my mom is from Portugal), also I'm for Portugal in the World Cup so I thought I would show my pride.  I don't think they will win the Cup, but will be rooting for them anyway.  Smile

I've always preffered wine, white wine in particular (I'd choose beer over red wine, any day). Although I like some beers, I find wine seems to have a more distinct taste whereas I can never fully get over the impression of beer as bitter water.

Maybe it's simply down to which you tasted first. I was brought up on wine and cider. They say beer is an acquired taste. Maybe I never bothered acquiring myself to it properly.

Any cider drinkers here?

Yes, I - though I come from a country where cider was unknown up to a few years ago. Now you can find it rather easily in pubs, though it's not always the best quality. I love both English and French cider, while Finnish cider is way too sweet (they probably put sugar in it, which is not a good idea Pinch).

Unfortunately, at the moment it's too hot to even think about drinking anything remotely alcoholic...Cry

A hot day is the perfect time for an ice cold beer.  Not a heavy, dark beer like a stout or an ale, but a lager would be ideal or if you're so inclined a pilsner will do the trick.  A mellow Mexican beer like Corona or Pacifico are perfect on hot days. especially with a slice of lime.  So cheer up Ghost Rider, you can still drink no matter how hot it gets!!  Wink

I love Old Peculier.  Never heard of Summer Lighting, I'll have to look around for that one.  I take it it's a seasonal beer and only available for the summer months?
