Be happy, I would had closed both.
This is a Progressive Rock site, our mission is to research and promote the genre, of course we're not machines trained to like everything, but we must at least respect the work of the members in charge of a determined sub-genre who break their backs for free just to read nobody likes the music they are working in.
What's the point to sacrifice our free time, the time we could expend with our families working in sub-genres that apparently nobody likes?
When somebody talks about Rap or Hip Ho, we find a lot of "wide minded" members who call us names for believing this two genres don't match the beauty and copmplexity of Prog, but when a group of us messes with OUR OWN GENRES, nobody has a nice word for Neo Prog, a genre without which Prog wouuld had never survived the 80's or Prog Metal that has recruited a large number of new members that learned to love all the other faces of Prog.
Neo Prog may not be as perfect FOR MY TASTE as Symphonic, but I would be an idiot if I wasn't able to recognize the excellent achievements of groups as Marillion, Pendragon or Magenta, I may not like Prog Metal as much as Prog Folk but to deny the excellent skills of most Prog Metal musicians woiuld be a complete sign of ignorance.
I may not like some bands, but to easily say without any shame that I don't like a whole sub-genre is closing my ears to a whole bunch of great bands basred only in prejudices.
Said it once and will say it again, the worst enemy of Prog is the Prog fan.

Because it is similar and one "negative" poll like this is surely enough?

Wow, whats wrong with neo prog?? |
Or alternately, what's not wrong with Neo-Prog? Nothing wrong with it, I suppose, but certain Neo-Prog aesthetics simply do not appeal to me. It often does seem to lack the complexity, adventurousness, and virtuosity to be commonly found in other Prog subgenres. There's a New Waveish attitude and production to much of it that I don't care for (slick style over substance), and the singing often has an AORish quality to it, and harder for my ears an EMOesque quality (or emotional). Just some of my impressions... There is some Neo-Prog I like (borderline Neo-Prog), but it's very rare. Some times there's musicianship that appeals to me, but the singing leaves me flat. If people like it, that's fine, and if they don't, that should be fine to. Some of my favourite bands have had very vocal detractors here (if not my favourite subgenres so much). It's a matter of taste and experience -- Neo Prog does not seem to fit into my music conditioning. P.S. Zeuhl is cool, I think.

I don't get Zeuhl. I tried to listen to some Magma, I didn't like it at all.

Canterbury, in all the prog styles I have heard, doesn't do it for me at all.
