Animals? Ummagumma? OBC? I laugh at you.
My favorite Floyd album is A Momentary Lapse of Reason! I really, REALLY, really  love it. It just fills me with immense joy and pleasure.

Now, for more consensual choices, I also prefer A Trick of the Tale to any other Genesis albums and Camel's debut to anything after that.
Bigger on the inside.

I'm always tempted to listen to albums other people hate to see why.

I never understood the hate Tales from Topographic Oceans got.  I was drawn instantly upon putting it in my CD player.

Often what happens with me is that I'll have a favorite album (or album I recommend to people) and, while it's not hated, a lot of people will suggest something else instead.

For example, I'd typically recommend Godbluff by VDGG for first time listeners while many others seem to think H to He should be the first listen.  I always try to go for something a bit more unique to the artist rather than the most popular.

I think that "Generation 13" is Saga's best ( by far ) and haven't met too many Saga-fans sharing my opinion... but it's got a high recommendation here, many good reviews, so I stopped feeling that alone...
Others I think I'm merely alone with is "Wool" by the Nits... "Eight" by New Model Army... but here we are... Rupi's very far from "Prog" again...

I think lots of people love Animals that much; I do.

Pink Floyd--Ummagumma By no means is it my favorite, but a lot of people seem to despise this album.
Pink Floyd--Obscured by Clouds I really don't understand why this gets so much abuse.

Rush - Favs include Grace Under Pressure, Caress of Steel, Counterparts and Test for Echo.

Yes - find Fragile to be quite overrated, much prefer Relayer to the former and CTTE.

Gentle Giant - Three Friends is easily my favorite by the band.

Pink Floyd - prefer Animals and Meddle to DSOTM.

Marillion - find Fugazi to be much superior to the other fish-era albums.

King Crimson - find ITCOTCK to be quite overrated, much prefer Lizard and Red.

Mars Volta - I always thought De-loused to be a much more consistent and better album, though I thought this was already the general consensus.

Dream Theater - I also consider Falling Into Infinity to be one of their best - it seems that they really focussed more on songwriting on this album as opposed to relentless chops - best examples being New Millenium, Lines in the Sand and Trail of Tears.

I know there are more but these immediately come to mind.

I find that once you get beyond a band's most popular or highly regarded album, you discover perhaps a more unique aspect of the band and oftentimes much better material.

Is Grace Under Pressure your favorite Rush album when everyone else insists that it should be Moving Pictures?

I hate "Tormato" - but "Grace Under Pressure is one of my favourite Rush albums...

In any case... I said that "I can be wrong"!!!

I know what you mean. GUP is an excellent album. It grew on me slowly, but I love it. It's among their best from any era IMO.

I'm not really alone with preferring TFTO and Relayer, but CTTE and Fragile are more popular.

SDOIT is far less popular than some other DT albums, but it's my favourite after IAW and Awake.

I also like FII.

Preferring The Lamb over Selling is also a minority opinion. Foxtrot is almost as highly placed as  Selling, so it's not reallly the "wrong" album to championate.

i think it is not the favorite of all of you

Not at all. It's just very different. A lot like Talking Heads (Brian Eno's
presence). The next two albums are in the same style, but aren't nearly as
good.

Well, since I've been registered to this forum I noticed that I am one of the few who thinks Train of Thought by DT absolutely kicks ass! Besides that, I think that When Dream and Day Unite is a pretty good album (ignoring the terrible production).
And in many places I've seen people slaughtering BE by Pain of Salvation, while I think that it is a magnificent piece of work.

Focus on the music... Focus!

OK... GABRIEL, HACKETT, BANKS, RUTHERFOD & COLLINS ARE THE BESTS!

(I can see all those old Genesis fans trying to kill me...)

But I saw and listened to the CAS Tour (DVD LIVE IN KATOViCE -POLAND-, etc), and a lot of bootlegs.Big smile

And the band on stage was really great. RAY was really a showman (not a newbie). Mike and Tony, were perfect, as usual. Drenann is better and has more feeling than Daryl, and Nir Z did a great work.Smile

It was an attempt of modernizing the band, without forgetting the past. With some young people, and new resources (acoustic set), a new composer, etc. Clap

And Ray's voice is a mix between Gabriel, Collins, himself and something more obscure. Wink

He sings the old stuff, the Collins songs, and the new material perfectly.

Ouch  I was in great disagreement with the decision to suspend the recording of the second album.

It could have been really good!!Cry

Excuse me, but

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like that one too.  Definitely some prog moments on there, well, especially with the Lady Lies.  In a lot of ways that album was better than what Yes was doing that year with Tormato.  More consistent, less cheesy, less pompous.  Though I like that album too.

Yep, I think it's much better than Tormato. It's arguably less prog, but the songs are stronger IMO. ATTWT was the first Genesis album I heard from begining to end, and I thought of it as 'prog rock' Imagine my delight when I explored `the rest of their music. I'll always have a soft spot for ATTWT. I also consider 'Down and Out' and 'Burning Rope' to be among their best songs.

'Tarkus' - ELP (Much better than BSS )

All the Calvert Hawkwind albums. Not many other Hawfans seem to like them..

Wrong. Jean and I love the Calvert Hawkwind albums. The "Sonic Assassins" EP is outstanding; some of the very best Hawkwind of all times. There is an amazing version of "Death Trap" on it.
I agree with "Tarkus" too, but heartily disagree with "And then there were Three".

Well it's great that you two like those albums, but generally most Hawkfans around here seem not to. I think for many the sound on 'Astounding sounds..' 'Quark' and 'PXR5' was too close to New Wave and too much a departure from the classic Hawkwind sound on the albums that preceeded them, but I love the tension and mania that Calverts vocals brought to the music. I also appreciated the improvement in production, and the musicanship too.
