No... he said Radiohead have produced more prog albums than TMV could possibly have done, therefore if only one is a prog band it must be Radiohead.

Nope.
Since Radiohead have clearly produced 3 excellent prog albums, and I'm only familiar with one TMV album, the assumption from that conversation clearly indicated that there was only one prog band - so it had to be Radiohead.

So basically what you are saying is: The mars volta is not prog?

20 minutes of noise is overdoing it....i think at a max there is 7 minutes of non-melodical textures...besides the longest track Cassandra gemmini at 32 minutes is completly without noise

I voted for Radiohead though I feel a very high potential in TMV. They would gain interest and fans in "calming down" a little bit, giving some more structure to their music. Surfing on the dissonance wave, like KC did so well in time, requires experience. France the Mute has 15 to 20 minutes of unnecessary "noise" that doesn't bring anything to the listener and makes the CD quite difficult to listen to in one shot.

Good point there, although I still feel TMV fall off the dissonance wave with style.

Radiohead - I've heard the name somewhere. Was that the alt rock band they often play on the radio?

I broke the tie in favour of Mars Volta. I find them far more interesting.

Both great, but Radiohead is more influential and less pretentious.

Come on! I personally don't even see how you can compare the
two. They are both very different... ah well... my vote went to
The Mars Volta because they rock harder, are more complex and because
they are simply more interesting.

I'm voting for TMV, but it's a really difficult choice; I love both bands, but TMV wins for overall originality.
