Actually, Reflections from the Firepool is one of my very most fave Prog albums from the '80s, and ranked as #7 on RYM's Progressive Rock chart for 1989 (with popularity weighting on 4) - and even got 3 stars from Paul. Edited by David_D - April 06 2023 at 08:51 |

One of these five is very fortunately not included at all, and I can't imagine it otherwise than it has been put on Wikipedia's timeline by mistake.

Well, my is #17, and I'm still struggling a bit with Nothingface, so I can't yet really consider it as one of my faves, but it's the highest rated 1989 album on RYM+PA, so I wouldn't mind if it also could be one of my faves. Edit: That is btw not quite sure, as it could be another or even more Metal albums - but not Prog Metal.

My five favourite prog albums from this year aren't included in PA's Top 27 list for 1989, so no surprise there again.

^ RYM's chart rundown looks much more appealing to me than PA's list, although I've yet to hear a Cardiacs album I'd want to listen to a second time.

I have to go with Marillion>Fates Warning>Jethro Tull>Rush>ABWH. Not a great year for prog. However, Season's End is my favorite post-Fish Marillion album and imho probably equal to the Fish-era albums.

This was a great period for me musically - I was late teens and getting heavily into rock music. King’s X were my favourite band at this time and could do no wrong in my eyes!
But Faith No More with The Real Thing would have been a very strong contender this year too. And Can’t Look Away by Trevor Rabin - and I had no idea at the time that he had been involved with Yes…. |

It does, although that might also be because not enough of the other releases are known or considered strong or are as mainstream Prog audience. It definitely does have fans, but a very middling rating at PA (3.19) with 399 ratings. If it weren't a Yes album essentially, let me rephrase that, almost a Yes album in various ways essentially, then I wonder how popular it would be (like if Univers Zero came out with that -- I tend to think Univers Zero might be more popular than it is) I don't mind it (even quite like it), and am not surprised that people like it, I'm just more into other stuff from the time -- not just so-called avant prog like Cardiacs' On Land and in the Sea (which should have been the representative but darned wiki bad timeline) and Thinking Plague, but more mainstream music like The Cure's Disintegration for instance. |
