I guessed that you wouldn't include After Dinner for Paradise of Replica from the wikipedia prog timeline entries, but that would have got my vote.
I'll go Thinking Plague again with In This Life. By the way, even the main Cardiacs wikipedia page confirms that Caradiacs Live was "Released: 31 October 1988". I know we already established that the timeline pages have many errors, and it's not a big deal to me.

A lot of people seem to have a soft spot for it, while also being quite divisive. I would call it mediocre, or of lesser quality than mediocre actually.
Teakbois may be some kind of nadir for the weak boys -- when it comes to about 7:40 songs anyway.
Let's Pretend sounds quite nice, maybe I should be quite nice and pretend that it's a good album.
To each his or her own tastes of course.

It gets an occasional play from me; I do quite like 'Brother Of Mine' and 'Order Of The Universe' although in truth, if you are trying to find 'good' Yes albums, for me they only released 3 after 1980... Talk, which is oddly excellent in it's own right, but still not really Yes, the Keystudio material and Magnification. I'd possibly add the longies off The Ladder, but that's about it...

Talk and Magnification definitely, the Ladder, not so much, I find it uneven.
90125 and Big Generator are fine albums IMO. I haven't listened to Keystudio in a very long time, I will try and find some time for a listen.

Oh, 'The Ladder' is most definitely uneven... most of the centre of the album is entirely forgettable, which is why I said 'The Longies'... Homeworld and New Language would have fitted well on Keystudio and save the album from being on a level with Onion.
90125 and BG are fine enough if you file them under Asia, but in all honesty if I ever feel the urge for some intelligent AOR, I'd rather listen to the first three Toto albums...

Intelligent AOR?! As opposed to dumb AOR? I love Toto, most of their albums are fine.
I also think 90125 and Big Generator are better (more entertaining and enjoyable) than any Asia album.

well, I think we'd agree that most AOR follows are fairly restricted formula and quickly becomes generic and lacking in imagination... you may disagree, but back in the 80's, there were literally no end of 'dumb' AOR bands on the scene...

I know, just that the "intelligent AOR" made me giggle like a naughty kid in school.
I do like some AOR, if the vocals and guitar work are really good, I will enjoy that.

The first three Toto albums, late 70's Styx and early Steve Perry era Journey are the ones that have always stood out to me as being quality AOR which command repeat listens... not that I tend to much these days

King’s X as well, although this could have gone one of several ways, with the IQ, DT and Marillion albums all very good.

ABWH gets my vote, too. Top ten YES album in my heart. I adore it.
Even Teakbois. Jon Anderson knew some people wouldn't get it. So, he put that message in the repeated refrain of the last line of the song. The written lyric is-
"This Summer you couldn't get it"
But the sung lyric sounds like-
"Some of you can get it"

In my view Talk Talk are far more heavyweight (and consequently have a far more justified presence in a prog timeline) than TFF, at least the last three albums.

If to be serious, the big difference is that TFF in no way is considered to be Progressive Rock in Wikipedia's article about the band.

Sorry to butt in, but the album wouldn't have to have Yes on the cover for it be a Yes album according to Cindy's heart. A cardiologist might confirm if Yes is written/ branded on Cindy's heart if it weren't more metaphorical.
I thought it was pretty much Yes in all but name, but I don't know. Aside from the name, the cover looks very Yes too.

I'm not contesting her love of the album. Maybe i'm pedantic, but it's not Yes. It was not called Yes because Chris Squire was not there.
The album covers Roger dean did for Uriah Heep have the same Yes vibe. Even the Asia - Aria cover album Dean did could be a Yes album cover.

I mean that I think that it can be Yes in her heart without actually being Yes. If it quacks like a Yes and walks like a Yes from her hearty perception, then to her heart it can be Yes enough for me not to have a problem with it. You're being more literal than I would be. This is a matter of the heart, and the metaphorical heart need not be logical or pedantic. That's for the head as it is said.

^ Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe has always been a genuine YES album to me too - even though it doesn't include Chris Squire - in just the same way as The Quest (2021) and Mirror to the Sky (2023) are bona fide YES albums, even though the only original member is Steve Howe. My favourite YES album by far is The Quest, although some may say my heart is in the wrong place.

That's the beautiful thing about YES. Every album can end up as your favorite. Depends on the fan.
I adore The Big Generator and ABWH. Some folks dig Drama. Other's go for the Quest. I imagine "Mirror to the Sky" will wurm it's way into the hearts of others.
Of course ABWH is a genuine YES album. How many musicians have been members of YES? ABWH had four members from it's Fragile/CTTE line up. Like Meat Loaf said, "Two out of three ain't bad"... if true, then Four out of five must be much better.

How is it genuine when even the musicians did not release it under the Yes name?!
I read long ago that it was released under ABWH out of respect for Chris Squire, because he had been the heart and soul of the band, the driving force behind it. I can understand that.

ABWH. Always liked Brother of Mine, Birthright and Order of the Universe. Teakbois is bad, like Circus of Heaven bad. The rest is decent enough though. I listened to the album often when it first came out. Solid effort overall.
Tears for Fears is not really Prog, but this was a good pop album. Kings X Gretchen Goes to Nebraska is the best album they did. They deserved a bigger stage than they ever received.
I have Rush's Presto, but it's a mediocre album. It's part of a run of mediocre releases by Rush that began with Hold Your Fire.

I read today that Squire instructed his lawyers to not let ABWH use the "Yes" name. I like the ABWH album but Bruford's snare sound spoils it for me. Tears For Fears album is good but there's nothing really prog about it so I'm going for ABWH.

Correct. There was a lawsuit that was filed to prevent ABWH from using the name "Yes" in any of its promotional material for the tour. In June, 1989 a U.S. District Court Judge ruled in ABWH favor they could refer to their heritage and material to promote the tour.

Yes indeed! Four out of five ain't bad at all, but whenever I hear people say present-day YES is a pale imitation of classic YES, I feel every day a little sadder, maybe even a little madder, someone get me The Ladder album instead.

It does, although that might also be because not enough of the other releases are known or considered strong or are as mainstream Prog audience. It definitely does have fans, but a very middling rating at PA (3.19) with 399 ratings. If it weren't a Yes album essentially, let me rephrase that, almost a Yes album in various ways essentially, then I wonder how popular it would be (like if Univers Zero came out with that -- I tend to think Univers Zero might be more popular than it is) I don't mind it (even quite like it), and am not surprised that people like it, I'm just more into other stuff from the time -- not just so-called avant prog like Cardiacs' On Land and in the Sea (which should have been the representative but darned wiki bad timeline) and Thinking Plague, but more mainstream music like The Cure's Disintegration for instance.

But Faith No More with The Real Thing would have been a very strong contender this year too. And Can’t Look Away by Trevor Rabin - and I had no idea at the time that he had been involved with Yes….

I have to go with Marillion>Fates Warning>Jethro Tull>Rush>ABWH. Not a great year for prog. However, Season's End is my favorite post-Fish Marillion album and imho probably equal to the Fish-era albums.

Well, my is #17, and I'm still struggling a bit with Nothingface, so I can't yet really consider it as one of my faves,
but it's the highest rated 1989 album on RYM+PA, so I wouldn't mind if it also could be one of my faves.
Edit: That is btw not quite sure, as it could be another or even more Metal albums - but not Prog Metal.

FNM probably don't have much pull with this crowd. The Real Thing isn't on par with Gretchen, either. FNM's next album, Angel Dust, became their masterwork. Both KX and FNM have devoted followings but never hit the big time because they'e just too "out there" for the mainstream.

Tears for Fears are listed as Art Pop on RateYourMusic, in just the same way as Kate Bush and Tori Amos are Art Pop, so from that perspective, maybe Tears for Fears could be considered for inclusion here at PA under Crossover Prog.

That sounds about right. I'd list Tears for Fears primarily as Pop/Rock too, but I've never heard of a sub-genre called "Big Music" before, although I suppose Big Music could apply if you've got something to Shout about...

I don't think this is the way to do it. I don't think there's anyone who would change that for you, in Wikipedia people have to do it themselves. Although probably raising this on the article's discussion/talk page would be a start (if you don't establish it there, chances are it won't survive the night, although this may well also happen if you give proper reasons first - I had set the devil smiley because changing Wikipedia isn't as easy as people think who have never tried to do it).
