He has been trying to call his backup band Jethro Tull for years, even referring to them as the Jethro Tull Band. The name is a marketing ploy if there is no Martin, but since I have enjoyed all his solo records, it stands to be a pretty decent album. I would like to see a greater emphasis on instrumentality but know it won't be all instrumental.

Personally, I actually think A and Broadsword are still really solid albums, but I understand that there’s a shift in tone and sound after Stormwatch

But I would say that Roots to Branches had a group dynamic to it, but I understand why some think it doesn't.

I always felt Ian thought he was more important than he was. At least prior lineup changes were gradual and the replacements were perfect. It was tough to replace Jeffrey but Glasscock met the challenge very well. But when he completely broke up the band it was the end of Tull. Tull was the sum of the parts - not just Ian or Ian and Martin. I was a huge fan of the band, not just of Ian. Everything after Stormwatch is an Ian Anderson solo album to me.

Stormwatch is where I get off the Tull boat - though not a bad record, it set the precedent for future expectations for Tull albums. After that it's all Ian to me.

I saw them a couple years back. No thank you. I will remain faithful to their albums through Barriemore Barlow's tenure with the band. After that, there is very little to write home about and believe me I've tried.

^ Absolutely. It’s definitely more a marketing tool than anything else. I doubt the name indicates any difference in the style of what has been released under Anderson’s name in recent years.

Presumably a commercial decision rather than an artistic one. It's not as if his solo albums show a massive change of direction away from Tull

Hi, I don't think he has to "sing", and he could end up simply doing some poetry and add some words here and there in a normal voice that might make it easier for him to say something. I kinda think that this new album might be a bit more "instrumental", and less about the songs and the lyrics as has been the case in the past. But, honestly, like many of the "big 5" and other bands, it is time for them to call it a night and not be thought of as all of a sudden being poor in their abilities and indulgences. I keep thinking that the last thing I would like to see is a sad old man trying to sing yet again ... and sounding terrible and not being able to adjust to different vocal styles and details for the sake of another stupid rock song! |

Anderson's ego will prevent him from not singing, as seen on that terrible String Quartet release. He cannot accept that his vocals detract from anything he releases. For God sakes man, release an instrumental "Tull" album before you leave this Earth!...Oh, and ask Martin (on bended knee) to come back for one last Tull album before "signing off".

I agree...it's not Tull without at least Martin Barre and the last real Tull with the classic players was Stormwatch. Though I have most of the rest and a few are decent ,none have that great 'Tull sound' imho. I have no expectations that this 'Tull' album will be very good when it comes to the classic sound.

I just wonder if Steven Wilson could possibly be behind the mixing table. At the very least, that would be very nice since his (Ians) latest output the drumming in particular sounds like its to a metronome and SW would possibly be able to add that awesome earthy texture we love about Tulls best records.

I take it this will be with the current lineup(ie his solo backing band)?
