Well that depends, what are your feelings on Roll The Bones by Rush?

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Yeah, I mentioned that one earlier (but it is so bad! Polyester slacks and zodiacs). Plllleeez! I’ll take Intergalactic any day over that. :-)

Well, if we want to be a bit lazy in our definition of prog and rap we can say that Rush already did it with the title track to roll the bones.

I would tend to agree. Certainly artists have blended Prog and funk. For example, Jazz-rock fusion. I think it could be something along those lines. It is a progressive thing to do, but it’s not Starship Trooper.

Imo, RHCP were probably the first band to do so. Anyway, I say it is possible and it's likely it has been done to some degree or another.

Ok, I see there is also the mix up but that didn't get very good reviews apparently.

And Red Hot Chili Peppers. They blended rock and rap, too, no?
The person who posted this is bringing up a point that probably should not be dismissed so lightly. Is it possible for Prog to incorporate rap? |

As far as I can tell the only full instrumental album they put out was "the in sound from way out!" which is indeed a compilation.

This is funny because someone added Beastie Boys to MMA (MetalMusicArchives) and i was like OMG, really? Turns out they have a couple hardcore punk EPs which qualifies them. This all goes back to the age old question what is prog and what is progressive in a general sense. I actually love the Beastie Boys. Have all their albums. Blast the bass and beats. Never considered them progressive, just very clever and artistic. What do you consider progressive about them?

Are you asking if they belong to category called progressive rap? If so, depends on how that category is defined. I don't think it exists. If it does, how is it defined.
I guess I would categorize them as alternative hip hop/rap. If you are asking whether are progressive within rap, by expanding the boundaries of rap by incorporating other forms of music, ideas, and innovations, then perhaps. It depends on how you want to differentiate between being progressive or alternative. |

Sabotage is a song by the Beastie Boys, for those who don’t know their work. My crude attempt at humor. Anyone remember when Rush tried rap on Roll the Bones? Ugh! Give me Intergalactic Planetary any day over that!
