Fun memory exercise since I don't keep track of concerts I've been to. Prog and prog-related only, and I'm probably forgetting some...
Opeth 2x Dream Theater 2x Present Los Jaivas Sleepytime Gorilla Museum Dixie Dregs Ahleuchatistas Sigur Ros 3x Godspeed You Black Emperor! Dungen Mogwai Slint Pere Ubu Behold... The Arctopus Time of Orchids NEARfest 2000 (Thinking Plague, DFA, Anekdoten, Happy the Man, Transatlantic, Il Balletto di Bronzo, Par Lindh Project, Iluvatar, Nexus, North Star) ProgDay 2000 (Hoyry-kone, Malibran, Tiles) ProgDay 2005 (Far Corner, The Spacious Mind, Happy the Man, Glenn Phillips Band) Of all these I think Present, Hoyry-kone, and Los Jaivas were the best... Thinking Plague, DFA, Far Corner, Sigur Ros not far behind. |

Rush about 10 times
Yes 3 times (and ABWH once) Porcupine Tree 4 times King Crimson Flower Kings Dream Theater twice Opeth twice Caravan Nektar Pink Floyd Happy The Man Dixie Dregs It Bites Project Object (great Zappa tribute band featuring Ike Willis and Napoleon Murphy Brock) Tool 3 times Primus twice Phish twice Sigur Ros Ozric Tentacles twice Jethro Tull 4 times Fish Mastermind ELP twice Radiohead I think thats most of 'em... Man I wish there were more, but prog music doesnt come by here too often (Wash. DC), I'm so jealous of Europeans who have much more access (it seems). Edited by Nipsey88 |

Tull(Ian Anderson was hoarse), Peter Gabriel(at an Earth Day festival),
Kansas(my first concert ever-I was a teen), Styx, Pink Floyd at
RFK in Washington DC, Crack the Sky 3X(an "art rock" band
popular in the Baltimore area). Does Steely Dan count(probably
not but 2X).

The best was Pink Floyd's DSotM tour in the 70's at Wembley Indoor Arena. Absolutely brilliant. Echoes as an encore - wow, what more does one want?

Well, let's see...I've seen:
Pink Floyd (twice) at the Oakland Colosseum on their Division Bell tour. They played three nights, and I saw the first night (from directly in front of the sound board) and the last night (from the nose bleed section) Rush (twice). Once on the Power Windows tour (with The Fabulous Thunderbirds opening ) in the Coasta Mesa Ampitheatre (Coasta Mesa, CA), and once on the Roll The Bones tour in Frankfurt, Germany. Primus opened for this show, and was practically booed off the stage. Yes (twice). Once on the (Re) Union tour in Frankfurt, Germany (no opening act), and once at Shoreline Ampitheatre (Mountain View, CA) for the Talk tour...again without an opening act. Genesis - Once in L.A. (I think it was the Forum) on the Invisible Touch tour...always wished it was the Foxtrot Tour though Rick & Adam Wakeman - Santa Cruz, CA (can't remember the club) and Pearl Harbour & The Explosions opened...they were actually quite good. This would have been around 1996/97. King Crimson - 2004 at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on The Power To Believe tour. Roguefest 2004 - Atlanta Shakesphere Tavern - Featured local prog bands Z-Axis, Farpoint, Cobweb Strange, Lord Only, Timothy Pure, The Bell Jar, and Man On Fire. Roguefest 2005 - Atlanta - Featured Land Of Chocolate, The Red Masque, Izz, Farpoint, Z-Axis, Cobweb Strange, Unbounded Sky, Brass Knuckle Surfer, The Lost Boys, and Man On Fire. Devo - Yes, Devo...quite a proggy show actually! It was for the Peek-A-Boo tour, and I would guess around 1983/84. The guitarist broke his ankle during the show, and got so pissed that he smashed his guitar during a rousing rendition of Hendrix's Fire. A very good show! I have had the pleasure of being in a band (Mind's I) in the early/mid-90s that opened for: Kansas - I guess it would have been the Live From The Whiskey tour, at the Caberet in San Jose, CA Brand X - I can't recall what album they were supporting, but they bored me to tears. At the Caberet. IQ/Enchant - This was (from what I understand) IQ's only US tour date for the Ever CD in 94 and Enchant was (if I recall) supporting an early version of Blueprint Of The World. Vanden Plas - Ramstein, Germany in a little club called The Oasis. They were not that impressive. This would have been around 1990/91. Edited by BigHairyMonster |

I have seen TASAVALLAN PRESIDENTTI and URIAH HEEP three times (!), ANEKDOTEN, YES, HAWKWIND, WIGWAM and DARK SUN twice, and then THE SPACIOUS MIND, UZVA, CAST, HIDRIA SPACEFOLK, ROGER WATERS, BLUESSECTION, PÄR LINDH PROJECT, OVERHEAD, AFTER CRYING, MOONFOG PROPHET, ARS NOVA, GRAND STAND and ALAMAAILMAN VASARAT once. I'm not sure if HEEP is a prog band, but they are listed in the archives so I stated it here. All of the gigs were at Finland. Here's a couple of impressions I got out of 'em: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8185&a mp;PN=1 http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8529&a mp;PN=1 Edit: Getting serius now! Hhm.... Yes 4 times, Rick Wakeman & King Crimson once each.
Suprisingly few prog acts actually - I think its because women (who I tended to go with) aren't really into prog. Mind you I have been taken along to see many other bands, some of them very embarrasing to mention. Heavens above I think I'll start another thread! |

My First was In Cahoots with Phil Miller and Pip Pyle (National Health Hatfield and the North) in 92. I was so inside the Canterbury rock that I couldn't miss to meet them. Then Gong few month later, with David Allen, Didier Malherbe and Pip Pyle again. Following the Caravan of dreams with Richard and David Sinclair. I think it was the same year when I saw the reunion of Emerson Lake and Palmer. Than a long break until I saw King Crimson the double trio 1995. Roger Waters in the flash tour 2002. In few days I hope to see Adrian Belew... That's it. |
