and baiting people in the hope that they will say something stupid doesn't usually advance the debate either.

^ Maybe, but who and what you support matters.

I think what makes the news is far lefters and far righters doing stupid things, while the "normal" folks are debating their nonsense. When this debating occurs there is a lot of misunderstandings between the two parties and "actual" belief systems. Is that a valid observation?

Actually that sums up the issue. I guess Colin wasn't too old either? We have all these youth in advanced nations proudly proclaiming their conservative orientation. Well, hope seems to be the only thing to cling to now. Let's get ready for an exciting airplane ride with more mistakes to compound the ones already made in the last 40-50 years in the Gulf.

I don't care anymore. Politics are an illusion. Two (or three, maybe four) parties (do you even want to labeled as belonging to party?) fighting over something we actually almost agree on, but are manipulated by media to believe we despise each other. Who we should be fighting are the far lefters and far righters! I will admit I was trying to bait left-leaners to say something I didn't like. It didn't work. I'm to young to actually understand bullcrap anyway (is anyone old enough), so I'm gonna leave it at that.
Someone was saying we need another Yes vs. Genesis thread. That sounds awesome. |

If you are proud of being American then don't you also want America to be accountable for being a significant factor in the destabilization that gave rise to extremist groups such as al-Qaeda and the Islamic State? |

This does not resonate as common sense to me. I think that the idea doesn't inherently make you racist, but it would just depend on why you feel this way. |

Oh no, put those two sentences together and see how they sound. "As a white Christian conservative American, I don't want thousands of immigrants in my country." Without the ideological/ethnic badge of honour, the latter statement would sound merely apprehensive/fearful. Combined together, it's like to wanting to preserve a certain identity of America that remains predominantly white.

No. The problem comes when you insist on only being surrounded by other straight Christian conservative white Americans, and keeping everyone else out.

When did he say it was a badge of merit, he just said he's white. Saying you're white or black doesn't make you racist, all that is is stating your race.

I didn't include your conservativism and your christianism there because at least partially those are your own decisions (I may not agree with them but whatever). If you feel pride for that, suit yourself.
But your "race" and your sexual orientation is just what was assigned to you at birth by nature/god/bush, whatever you want to believe. Being "proud" of being white (or any color) is basically laughable.

Yes, you categorize yourself as white as if that was a badge of merit or something you achieved. I think is somewhat racist.

There's a contradiction right there between the first and last sentence. But I know conservatives don't bother with history other than their own version of it, whether it's American conservatives or our own grand right wing party, the BJP.

It's a fear of losing one's world, and manifests itself as a sort of tribalism, or more accurately culturalism.

What's racist about not wanting thousands of migrants into my country? That sounds like common sense to me.
Am I automatically a racist if I'm a straight Christian conservative white American? |

Not to ignite a fresh fire, but have you perchance missed out on the earlier discussion (not that you missed anything really worth the while)? The X word was fully applicable to some of those comments. Colin did a nice job demonstrating to one and all that extreme conservatism beats the daylights of extreme progressivism any time. A triple bagel, in tennis parlance.

OK let's use the less "liberal" word: racism.

Idiotic me.
