Yeah, I have noticed In Absentia works wonders in turning people on to the band. It made my dad and brother fans! You really can't go wrong with that album.

Too lazy to read whole thread, but what albums are good for starters? I saw them live at a festival during the summer, and they were AWESOME, but I have a feeling that I would have enjoyed the show more if I had knew some of their songs prior to the concert.

PT actually have a lot of pop influences, more than I feel like listing right now. The real difference between Coheed and PT is the punk influence and the fact that Coheed has a very hardcore-inspired sound... at least in their early days they did moreso.

that's probably the main reason, but pt actually have some pop infuence. the beach boys were one of the main influences for stupid dream. steven also likes abba and lcd soundsystem and more.
What we heard of Coheed and Cambria wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as Porcupine Tree, who they followed.
Very little is as good as PT, so I'm not surprised! The idea of this tour was to expose PT to a younger audience in the US. I am not sure if it was fully successful, judging from all the PT hate I read on C&C forums

^ 'Cause they're punk losers...
<I love Coheed and Cambria (I'm finishing up In Keeping Secrets
as I type this). I don't see why they would hate PT... really, I can't
find a reason why they wouldn't like them just because they like Coheed.>
What we heard of Coheed and Cambria wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as Porcupine Tree, who they followed.
We drove two days to get to the concert, because Marek had a truck to deliver in South Carolina, so after Porcupine Tree was done, Marek wanted to leave immediately. I was more inclined to stick it out, as I wasn't familiar with Coheed and Cambria, and liked the opening band The Dear Hunter very much; but after a few songs, realizing I would never be able to understand the lyrics due to the excessive reverb, I gave up as well.
The reverb was so bad that, had I not known the songs so well, I would have had trouble understanding even Steven Wilson, and we all know how good he is about clearly enunciating his lyrics.
The sound in the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium just wasn't all that good - a shame for all the bands. Hopefully they didn't have the same problem in the other venues.
I understand that the last time Porcupine Tree played Asheville, in 2007, they played at the Orange Peel, which is apparently a legendary venue, which has been written up several times in Rolling Stone. Maybe next time they will play there again - it is supposed to have fabulous sound.

< He has the Midas touch indeed, everything so far he's had any
involvement in has turned to gold. I haven't been able to resist him
yet. Everything he's released so far this year (which is a hell of a
lot) I bought straight away! IEM
boxset? Check. Cover Versions boxset? Double check. Insurgentes DVD?
Yup. Anesthetize deluxe edition? Missed the red one, but oh yeah, I got
it. Recordings reissue? Arrived last week! I must be a dream for his
marketing team! >
I can relate. I've bought all of the above but Recordings, since I have the original, plus I have seen PT perform The Incident 4 times so far, and am now looking forward to Radio City Music Hall . . . and that doesn't count the concert t-shirts, prints and other PT related stuff I've bought online.
In the Tampa Theatre, we were in the second row just off center, and the way that theatre is set up there were no seats in front of us, so through most of the concert I was bout fifteen feet or so from Steven Wilson - that was the show where the stage was too small to accommodate their video screen, which made for a much more intimate show overall. And, happily, during some of the quieter moments of the concert Steven Wilson was clearly taking in the theatre - a truly beautiful venue. Magical show.
Great news that he will undertake a solo tour - I'm sure he will hit at least a few venues in the States, but if not, I'll find a way to manage to see him somewhere. ;-)
I KNOW! It was so good when I saw them play it live this year. Amazing concert. I was near the front, metres away from Steven Wilson. He even looked me in the eye at one point! Awesome concert.
JEALOUS!! We were at the back but Conor and I managed to find some better seats for the last little bit of the show.
That must have been great. Just being able to see such a magical band perform. I watched some of this earlier:
Damn, he is good... I'm gonna get Arjen's Guilt Machine album just to hear his drumming.
Also, welcome to the PT thread Amalia! Always nice to see more and more people appreciating the music of SW and PT.
Thanks for the welcome :)
It was honestly the best show I have been to, if they every come anywhere near where I live again I will find a way to go to their show.

It'd be great if they released it as an ROABP album, although I don't think they'll restrict this one in numbers.
Also, just noticed that SW is listening to Sun Kil Moon (currently in his playlist on SWHQ) and I can't more than highly endorse you guys check them out. Amazing modern folk:
